Haven't cooked on a kettle in years. Recently decided to pick up a 26.75 kettle w/ SnS and Vortex... SUPER EXCITED! I plan on leaving it in the backyard, with a Weber cover throughout the winter. Curious... do any of you kettle gurus have issues with high winds knocking your kettles over? Do you weight them down when not in use? I plan on using a bungee cord to keep the cover on if I know the wind will be howling. Perhaps I'll place a couple of bricks on the lower rack (at the bottom of the 3 legs). What say you guys/gals??
By the way, when I say high winds, I mean 40-50 mph gusts on occasion.

Yup, here, I have had kettles blow over, until I weighted them down.
In the last three weeks we have had sustained winds of 25-45 mph all day several times, one storm that blew through with prolonged, sustained 70+ mph, an' a microburst clockin' well over 100 mph that destroyed countless trees, power poles, structures, vehicles etc., within 1 block of my house...
I generally put concrete blocks, or garage sale weight set plates on th' lower rack
Hi, my name is Darrell. I'm an OTR truck driver for over 25 years. During my off time I love doing backyard cooks. I have a 48" Lang Deluxe smoker, Rec-Tec pellet smoker,1 Weber Genesis 330, 1 Weber Performer (blue), 2 Weber kettles (1 black and 1 Copper), 1 26" Weber kettle, a WSM, 8 Maverick Redi Chek thermometers, a PartyQ, 2 SnS, Grill Grates, Cast Iron grates, 1 ThermoPop (orange) and 2 ThermoPens (pink and orange) and planning on adding more cooking accessories. Now I have an Anova sous vide, the Dragon blower and 2 Chef alarms from Thermoworks.
Hadn’t had my to blow over yet but I have had the PBC to blow over and it’s right beside the kettle. I also used a bungee cord to the cover on all of my cookers except the RecTec and the Lang.

If I was worried about the kettle blowing over, I would attach a nylon rope to each handle and tie a concrete block to the other end of each rope. I would turn one of the handles directly toward the wind and stretch those ropes out at about a 45 degree angle. If I was really worried, I would tie 2 ropes to each handle, with the ropes at a 90 degree angle from each other. If I was REALLY worried, I would order pizza.
