    Performer Fixes

I picked up an older Weber Performer the other day of Craig's List. It's in okay condition although I'm starting to feel like I should have negotiated a better price. Still, having a table in the back yard is super handy. Aside from mods, I need to fix a few things:

The casters, but those are available at Ace.

The charcoal storage has some kind of link that keeps it from falling open. This is not connected to anything on mine. Anyone got a picture of theirs so I can see where this thing is supposed to connect? (See attached picture.)

The lighter doesn't seem to work. I hooked up propane. Anyone have tips for troubleshooting this? I was thinking about trying to ignite the end with a flame to see if it's gas related or just the ignition but before I do I wanted to see if that was a problem.

The deal was okay and after some mods it'll be nice to be rocking a pair of 22" kettles. Once this is cleaned up, I gotta decide which SNS to toss in there.

Charcoal storage - there is supposed to be a cable that connects the clip at the back of the bin to a screw attached to the underside of the table top. It doesn't keep the bin closed. It just keeps it from opening too far and spilling charcoal all over the floor.

Starter - Try cleaning the contacts. Worse case you replace it with your wallet or use a bic.

I've got an original SNS. As a confirmed re-user of charcoal no matter how many times its been lit, now I'd go with a SNS plus. The grate at the bottom would make emptying it easier without a making an ashy mess. But either way, the SNS is the BEST mod for a Weber kettle

I don't have a photo, but here's a link to the assembly instructions. Look at parts # 26, 27, 32, and 33 for the wire and where to connect it. Drawings 14 and 17 further down show how to connect it to the bin, but it must come from the factory attached to the table because there is no drawing of that. Look for a hole on the bottom of the table that you can put a screw in to hold the wire.

coupster Looking at the assembly instructions, I didn't realize there was a battery involved! That's actually the most likely culprit. I'll try when I get home. I'm seriously considering the SNS Plus simply because I have the original and want to be able to compare the two. So I've got one and I love it. I just happen to have two kettles now.

RonB There's definitely a hole and I thought that might be the issue. I'm gonna have to find a screw that can hold it in. Thanks for the link. I didn't even think about looking at the assembly instructions.

Now I just need to find something that will clean grease stains off the table.

Looks like it might be on the newer model? Mines a few years old. I have no idea. I won't get to this until next weekend anyway.
