Anyone using a BBQ Guru Party Q with a Slow n Sear?
I purchased a Party Q in 2013 and planned to install it in my Weber 22" Kettle. As sometimes happens, like got in the way and I put it in the back of a closet. I kind of forgot about it and in the mean time, I bought the Slow n Sear and their drip pan. This is a great rig and probably just fine, but I don't like fiddling with the dampers. Recently, I was rummaging around in the closet and found it. Since I have the Party Q, I'm thinking of installing it as part of the package. Is anyone running this combination? If so could you please give me some tips as far as damper adjustments and installation? I can't find anything on You Tube, which is surprising.
Cookers:
SnS Kettle with SnS Deluxe, SS & Cast iron pans, elevated grate.
Grilla OG with upper shelf and pizza stone.
Weber Genesis SA-E-330 LP INDIGO with SS Grates, Weber Crafted frame kit, baking stone, griddle (2/3), all from Ace Hardware.
Everything Else:
SnS #3 I was their first customer.
Sous Vide equipment.
Instant read and leave-in thermometers.
Grill Grates.
Kingsford Blue Bag, Weber lighter cubes, Weber charcoal chimneys.
BBQr's Delight Hickory & Apple flavor pellets, propane torch, 12" smoke tube.
Grilla apple & hickory pellets, Royal Oak charcoal pellets.
Rubs with salt: Meat Church, Meathead's.
Rubs without salt: SnS Grills Rocky's Rub and Not Just for Beef.
Rubs home-mixed: None at this time.
Spices: Lots of 'em.
I run that combo a lot on long cooks (pork butts, chuck roasts, brisket).
Installation: Below the charcoal grate, NOT on the SnS side of the kettle, mark a spot and make sure the ash sweep blades will be clear in both directions and that it will be clear of anything on the outside, pilot hole and a step bit worked great for me, and on the inside point the air opening of the adapter down.
Exhaust Vent: On a typical 225 cook my top vent will be 1/3 to 1/2 open. Yesterday I did a 250 cook and left the top vent full open.
Bottom/Intake Vent: Keep it closed when using the PartyQ.
I usually let my temps get close to my target before adding the PartyQ. Remember to keep the rubber plug installed when not using. I bought some rechargeable batteries that have been going strong for almost a year and I use them 2-4 times a month.
Here's my kettle. The PartyQ is a bit in the way of the handles but it doesn't block them.
That will be a great combo. Using the drip pan will will force the air from the PartyQ through the SnS for better temp control. fuzzydaddy got the details right. I would place the air inlet as close to the charcoal grate as possible to let the forced air "spread out" some before reaching the SnS.
Yes, this my go to setup whenever I need to cook overnight, or on thoseoccasions when I will need to be away from the cooker for awhile during the cook. fuzzydaddy has provided excellent instructions, so follow those. I would emphasize that you want to make sure of the placement so you are staying out of the path of the ash sweep blades as much as possible.
I'm not using the Party Q I'm using the Auber and I marked the " blades " .
And found a spot that will not interfere with them. Opposite the SNS as Fuzzydaddy mentioned.

Danjohnston949 All I had to work with was a hole saw. Followed by deburring with a file. I've used stepdrills in the past and they're awesome. Just didn't have one at that time. Just offering the OP more options depending on his situation or tools available to him.
bestefar, (Grand Fatherâ“) These Gents Ain't Blowing Smoke! I have the DigiQ DX-2 and Pit Viper Fan on My 22 1/2" Weber with the S 'n S & Drip and Griddle Combination! As fuzzydaddy advised You want Your Fan Just Below the Charcoal Grate and Close to 180* to Your S 'n S as You can get! Make Sure You are Locating the Fan Inducer so it doesn't interfere with the Ash Sweeps! For Your Info Huskee had a a Post in the Technique and Recipie Section of www.abcbbq.com on Weber Vent Control Settings! It is Nothing Short of an Excellent Tutorial! Perhaps @ABCBBQDave Could Steer You To It!

Thanks Fuzzydaddy and all the other replies. I think I've got the basics down and all the tools to install the plug, so I'm ready to drill out the hole. Looking forward to my first cook. I've got the Smoke Thermometer and the Slow n Sear is great on it's own, but I have to go up and down a flight of stairs to adjust the temp. or anything else, so I hope the BBQ Guru will lower the number of trips. My knees aren't what they used to be.
