Maiden voyage on the Jumbo Joe

I got a Jumbo Joe for Christmas and had my first cook in it last Friday (we were out of town from 12/26 to 1/3 or it would have gotten its first cook much sooner). Brats and foil wrapped potatoes. We also had to bring a dish for a party on Saturday so I threw 1.65 pounds of ground chuck in as well (made into patties which were later shredded to form the base of a chili queso dip).

The food turned out great and this little cooker has nice capacity. My Performer and 26 are on the patio and it's difficult to use them during winter. I am keeping this cooker in the garage so I'll be able to cook with charcoal during the winter. I will probably get rid of my Smokey Joe - I just don't see myself ever using it in lieu of the Jumbo Joe. I love that the lid holder rotates up and snaps onto the top of the lid handle enabling the cooker to be carried by the handle. From that standpoint it's more easily portable than the Smokey Joe Silver that I have.

After 1 cook I seriously like this little cooker and can't wait to use it again (Tuesday!).

@Jeff3 , Congrats on Your New Jumbo Jo! How big is the Cook Grate on it? You may have just set My Disorder Off!

I'm glad you said you're keeping it in your garage. For a moment there I thought you might keep it on your counter top. Nice looking cook.

          It has an 18.5" grate.

Nice! I initially bought our Jumbo Joe, as a replacement for an old tailgating grill that crapped out. Now that we're empty nesters, I find that we use it more and more. The 18.5" grate is ample space for Mrs. Skinsfan and I, and it saves charcoal.

Been thinking about getting a Jumbo Joe for a friend of mine who's going through a divorce and lives in an apartment. I think it would be the perfect size for him now, and still give him plenty of cooking space for a guest when he's emotionally ready to..."entertain"...

Livermoron sounds like pretty dang good, an' sagacious thinkin', least t' me.

'S how friends should work; have each other's backside.

                Ya done good, jus sayin'.

Now, quit thinkin', an' git it fer yer friend.Sounds like BBQ therapy would be the best of many possible paths he could follow at this particular juncture.

I'll chip in, if ya' need....No Ribbers Left Behind!!!!

At least bein' divorced can git better with time..... Livin' in an' apartment? Not so much, fer me....

he's a musician, married a vegetarian, now interested in grilling and BBQ. I think it'll be good for him to learn he can make some of the best food he's ever had on his own back patio for a fraction of the cost! I'll keep y'all posted!

That is pretty cool. I've cooked on mine several times now and absolutely love it. Great cooker for a novice to dip his/her toes in the water. Enough capacity for up to 4 people and it's portable.

You are going to love it. The capacity and its miserly use of charcoal are really good. I love this little cooker.
