Finished modding my Weber? Not a chance.

    In the past I have:
    Bought a rotisserie
    Bought a pizza attachment
    Added a gasket
    Bought a SnS
Bought a CyberQ - drilled a hole for the fan and another hole for the probe cables
Added a ss baffle that directs airflow to the SnS
Converted the gas igniter to a 20 lb tank

    I just:
Added a lid hinge to the kettle
Placed ceramic tile under the grill to prevent a stray hot coal from landing on the deck. I did test using a hot coal laying on the tile and it did not break. The wood scrap I had under the tile did not blacken either.

I still need to get the SnS Grillgrates and the DnG.

I think I have discovered a new disease - MMS (More Mods Syndrome).

Next to the SNS, I think the hinge is one of the best mods I've seen. I'd like to see a pic of your pizza attachment and who makes it. And I love how you're saying (I still NEED to get the SnS grillgrates and DnG). MCS baby. MCS.

DWCowles the correct response is this: RonB, if my WP is gone then you will be too, from the face of the Earth. With or without the smiley face.

Just curious if you are keeping a tab on these upgrades and if/or when it will end up being as much as just buying one of the Weber Summit Charcoal Grill..... lol.... seriously though..... it can become addicting.

Nate - I don't want to know how much I've spent. But everytime I add something I'm reminded of a friend who bought a clunker because that's all he could afford, and then spent 5 times that "fixing it up"

Just giving you a hard time RonB .... I completely understand where you are coming from... and some of us just can't help or resist to play around with our toys!

Steve B - I found the the photo of the Pizza Kettle attachment:

In this picture there is a pizza stone on the visible grate and a baking steel on the grate under the lid. The fire is contained in my SnS opposite the opening. To get the chamber temp up I fill the SnS with lit coals and add some small splits on top of the coals. The stone was preheated in the oven to ~ 530*. I let this setup run a while trying to get the stone to a higher temp, but the stone never got as high as the air temp. The challenge is to get the air temp and the stone temp close to each other. So far I have not gotten them close enough with the air temp always too high so the top cooks faster than the bottom.

I would definitely like to get a hinge for the 22, the holder for the 26 has me spoiled.

Love my hinge! I have a PartyQ on the way. I ended up going with the PizzaQue kit, and saved quite a bit of money over the KettlePizza.

JDenver - Yes, there is a quick disconnect so that you can detach the lid and do what you want with it.

Yes, for the PizzaQue you just pull the pin to take off the lid and it sits on top of the pizza attachment.

Interesting! I'm real keen on trying out the hinge for the lid also, would be super convenient.

For those that have the hinge: is it stable enough, or is it wobbly?

Henrik that little hinge is quite solid. It does keep the lid pretty stable. I love it.

RonB the pic of your pizza did not come through. But thanks for the info.

Mine is very stable, no worries there. It also locks into place in the open position, so there are no concerns about it slamming shut at the wrong time. Nice thick stainless steel construction and simple procedure to install.

I love the Gator blue kettles. If I ever buy a new one, that will be the color I get. Nice mods!

Henrik - As Steve said, the hinge is very stable and it does lock into place. I do wish I had placed the hinge at 10 o'clock instead of 9 o'clock. I have the SnS at 9 and there would be a little more room if it was at 10. It's not really in the way where it is, but having always removed the lid anyway, (I felt the lid was too close in the old style Weber lid holder), the lid just feels too close.

I have the SnS @ the 3 o'clock position RonB and the PartyQ @ the 9 o'clock position. No particular reason it just the way I'm used to it. I do like that hinge though.

I can't help but think the hinge is too restrictive, what If I want to rotate my lid to aim the vent elsewhere?

Huskee - There is a quick disconnect pin. Just remove that and you can use the lid any way you want. You just can't lock the lid open.

RonB I see, I take it you just pull a pin to disconnect it?
