    18.5 Weber Kettle

Excited to have added this to my collection for $20 off craigslist. Im new to kettle cooking but excited to use it for high heat grilling. It's a small rig so my PBC will remain the go to for large cooks and smoking..I just couldn't say no for twenty bucks, I love the simplicity and "old school" utility, durability, look and function.

Get your SNS ordered. I feel its should just be included with your purchase at this point. It is an essential add on to any kettle. Really changes the game. I added one when I got my Craig's List kettle. AdamJG

Do they make it for the 18 inch kettle or only the larger sizes?

I guess not. I thought it fit both. But I guess it only fits the 22. AdamJG

Got it..I like using my PBC for brisket, ribs, butts and chicken, but a nice thick ribeye is how I envision the SnS really shining. The kettle will be my new go to for weeknight cooks, chicken breast, burgers, etc. Its replacing a small Weber Q gasser that I can't seem to get hot enough anymore. It gave me a few solid years and served it's purpose.

I LOVE my 18" kettle. I have the Jumbo Joe version, the 18.5" with stubby legs, portable. Bought a hinged 18.5" grate for it and put the stock non-hinged grate on a shelf. I use it regularly for front searing burgers, my favorite way to do burgers. It's the perfect size for a family burger cook. Nice score AdamJG

Exactly what I wanted! The old gasser has seen better days and I don't need to fire up 10 pounds of coals on a week night for the PBC. Just needed a small weekday burger and chicken cooker.

I've been eying the Jumbo Joe for a while. I like its combination of capacity + portability. Really can't fit much into the Smokey Joe if cooking for more than 2.

JeffJ the Jumbo Joe is worth it for sure. Only thing I'd change is put a wand on the bottom vent. That sucker gets burn-your-thumb hot.

CeramicChef 22" & up. I believe it is/was on the long-term to do list for an 18" but David Parrish would have to confirm or deny that. You have to consider how much coal could fit in a SnS for an 18"er and then how much food on the indirect side, would the longevity be there, capacity, and is it even worth it for real world use...

I was thinking the same...it would have to be a pretty small rack of ribs to fit on that thing anyway!

I have a prototype designed for the 18" kettle on the manufacturer's desk. Waiting on him to get us the prototype! Could be a few months before it's actually for sale.

Thanks! The reason I ask was that someone up above suggested getting and SnS for the 18 and I hadn't seen anything that small. Good luck on the prototype!

Notice I made sure to get the PBC some love in the photo...don't want it to feel jealous of its new neighbor.

Got the kettle polished up using some degreaser. High temp paint sprayed the ash pan and supports as they were rusty and tarnished. Added a thermometer to the lid just for a rough idea of temp. I'd say she's good as new, all for less than 30 bucks!

Like the paint job on the ash pan! Great idea, I'll have to give it a try.

I got an 18" kettle as a throw in when I found a 22" kettle on craislist for $40 for both. I use it for burgers for the family, big enough to handle the family.

After only two cooks I decided I wasn't going to deal with that pan forever...too messy! Added a real ash catcher today. The better half says it looks like a space ship now. It was an easy install that I think will be well worth it. Sorry, can't seem to rotate the pic.

The thumb is sideways but the photo displays properly.

AdamJG is that an add on or did you get a new kettle? If it is an add on where did you get it?

              #13
It was an add on. I ordered the assembly on amazon. Here is a link @LA Pork Butt

Thanks for responding. I was hoping to add it to my Jumbo Joe, but it won't fit.
