Lately, after heavy rain, I've been finding my ash cather full of water.
I'm using the same Grey vinyl Weber cover that i always have, and have the lid vents closed, but somehow water is getting in there. It's never happened before 🤷♂️
Anyone else ever had this happen?
Curious, how much water is it? I’m thinking it may be condensation actually taking place inside the kettle and draining down into the ash catcher, occurring due to high summer humidity. In my experience it’s best to keep all vents open during storage to allow as much air movement through the unit as possible. I’m in coastal SC, we have high humidity and temperatures all summer. I keep a galvanized steel trash can out back for ash disposal, and even though it’s tightly covered, every time I open it there’s water inside from condensation.
Tonight I used it for the first time in over a week. We had a couple storms last week with heavy rain. It was almost completely full of water. It also happened a few weeks ago. But with only a few inches of water in it. That's why I closed the top vent. I used to leave it open. I still leave the bottom vent open.
It's just odd because I've been storing it the same way for a few years without incident
Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

Never had that occur. I do cover when rain is forecast or I'm away. I keep all vents closed. I'm thinking water or mice. I've had the latter take up residence once. Nothing like a cooked mouse hanging out of the ash catcher.
If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
I had to toss my cover and my Performer has been uncovered since June in some massive rain storms, and no rain has made it into the ash catch. I kinda worried it would, but it hasn’t, with the top and bottom vents closed.
I bought a new “King Kong” grill cover for it during Prime days last week, and it arrived today. I like these King Kong grill covers as they hold up about 5 years and seem more waterproof and UV resistant than the Weber ones.
Those King Kong covers are the best, and way better than the Weber one. I kept my Performer outside on the deck for a few years with one of these and it never leaked at all.
Steve R. the reason I had to replace the King Kong cover for the Performer after 5 years was not due to cracking... for some reason the vinyl it was made of started shrinking, and it got to where I could barely stretch the bottom of it open enough to get it over the Performer. Once I got it started, it would slide down, but it was a pain it was so tight.
