OMG, some people have ALL the luck!!!! <Facebook rant>

Some may remember, I bought my 2nd Weber kettle a few months ago - it was a copper colored Premium and it is still sitting under a cover in the backyard, hiding from The Wife. Although I think she's aware - now that I've done so many other things recently (new slicer, plasma cutter, etc.), that little kettle isn't such a big deal.

But I've been wanting a 26"er for a long time. Been keeping my eye on Marketplace for like 2 years. NEVER seen one nearby, and I almost drove to Kansas City once to get one, only to find out it WASN'T a 26er, man am I glad I pressed that issue before I drove all the way up there. But never see these, and the one or two I've seen were s00p3r d00p3r 'spensive, so...

Well, my buddy wanted a new one - he's the guy whose shop I work out of. He has a 22" original and he wanted to get a Premium to capture ash and coals, because in his setup, if the wind is blowing, his place is prone to fire and he just wanted to be safer. So we've been keeping an eye out for a couple of months to get him a decent deal. He's a bit of a spendthrift, so he wasn't going to spend more than probably $75 for a 22" Premium, and I told him he should be able to get one with some patience for that price.

Yesterday he sends me an ad from FB Marketplace for one, it looks really good - porcelain enamel outside looks spectacular, but they haven't cleaned the inside, and it's got a bunch of ash, grate needs to be scrubbed, etc. But otherwise looks awesome, and though the pictures aren't great (a little too closeup to get a good look at the whole thing, etc.) I told him he better jump on it, because they only wanted $40 and I could tell it was a Premium. I figured it was already gone, as it had been up for sale since the night before.

Well, sure enough, they still had it, and he went to pick it up last night - about 30 miles from here.

He texts me on the way home, "Dude I think this thing is WAY bigger than mine."

I went back and looked at the pics... and when I zoomed in on the cover I could tell the air vent hole had a different handle on it, and then on one side I could see a wire rod-lookin' thing peeking around one side - barely.... holy CRAP! I nearly lost it!

My buddy, got a freaking NICE Weber 26" FOR FORTY FREAKING DOLLARS!!!!

I'm just beside myself. <sigh> I been lookin' for like 2 years!

Although his doesn't say "Master-Touch" on the handle, so I'm not sure what the difference is. Oh, I think it's the newer two-level grate with the removable center circle and such, isn't it? Anyways... lucky bastard.

Wow, best deal yet, $40 for a 26", especially when he didn't even plan on it being a 26"! Fantastic.

Wow, the exterior at least looks to me in like-new condition there! $40.

Also, this is the advice I needed:

It is so simple....I can buy that multi-thousand dollar offset.....I just need to remember to buy a current year Ferarri the following day. The wife won't care about the offset then! Brilliant!

I think you should tell him that it doesn’t really fit his needs, and you’ll give him $40 and he should keep looking.

Right, I tried to convince him to take my extra 22" in exchange, since that's what he was wanting anyways... but no dice, now! lol

I would have said, look, I will give you a 150% return on your investment and make it an even $100. Dude would probably be too smart to sell though.

Damn. I've been looking at FB Marketplace for a year and a half for a 26" kettle, and this dude just lucks in to one. Blows my mind!

DogFaced PonySoldier An excuse for you to come to the Meat Up

I misread the ad - I think he is just selling the lid and other parts not the whole Ranch Kettle. Leaving the listing though in case anyone needs these parts.

Weber Ranch Kettle in Houston for $100 (plus $100 for the cooking grate, plus $100 for the plancha)

I’ve seen some decently priced 26” kettles but never that much of a killer price. I’m always on the lookout too.

Yeah, if nothing else, it's good for that. I've sold several items that way. It is more used than Craigslist these days.

You guys made me check my local FB Marketplace. Immediately found a Weber Performer Deluxe 22” Charcoal Grill (Gold colored) for $100 right in my town. The kettle, table, and even the insides look to be in really good shape.

I really want a SnS, though... I guess there's no choice but to buy the Weber and the SnS, and call it a day

If I could only keep one of my grills, it would be my Weber Performer Deluxe (2007 edition). It's just so flexible, and that large table serves as a portable outdoor kitchen and prep surface for me. The storage shelf underneath holds the Vortex and SNS when not in use, and I have never had charcoal get wet in that storage bin. Once you use propane ignition to light your charcoal, you will wonder how you ever got by with starter cubes...

Wow, $40 for a 26" has to be the steal of the year! I'm also checking my local marketplace for one.

Steal of the year is my 18" Weber Smokey Mountain brand-new for $200.

I'm always on the lookout for these as well and haven't found any for a reasonable price. Beginner's luck for your buddy I guess. 😁 DogFaced PonySoldier one trick I've learned is look at the bottom triangle rack and if there are four bars, it's a 26er. Happy hunting!
