    Weber kettle handle repair

So I got my exercise last night chasing a couple of cookers around my yard in a severe thunderstorm, and now my Weber kettle has a broken handle on the lid. I'd like a little advice on how to proceed next. The point where the handle attaches to the lid is a bit rusty, which may be why it broke while being tossed around. Is this worth trying to repair? I have a friend who might be able to weld it for me, or I could try screwing or riveting it back on myself. Alternatively, I could just buy a new lid from Weber. Or I could scrap the whole thing and buy that 26" kettle I've had my eye on, or maybe even that new greatest grill ever coming out next week. All suggestions are welcome, thanks for your help.

I would go with the new 26 you have your eyes on then rivet the handle back on the 22 and just keep on cooking!!!

Easy repair with a small mig welder. I would do it for you if you lived close bye...What's your location? Or perhaps someone in the neighborhood has a mig has one where you live? A couple of ribs can go a long way!

A drill bit and a couple rivets or nuts and bolts would fix that right up.

Add fender washers on the inside to help support the corroded area around the original spot welds.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I'll definitely need some washers if I try to fix the handle myself. The rust on the lid still has me wondering how long a fix will last, but I'll put it back to together and see how long it lasts.

I had the same thing happen with my first Performer and I replaced the entire grill (dumb financial decision in retrospect). What was funny was that I wheeled the old grill into the street and then wheel the new grill onto the patio. I immediately came back around and saw the garbage thieves - they were already done loading the old grill onto the bed of their truck. They must have literally been around the corner when I put it on the curb.

I bought a 70's era Weber kettle (along with a newer 18" kettle, both for $40 on CL) that has two handles on the sides that both need new wood. It is my third best 22" kettle so he doesn't get used much. Not sure I want to mess with getting him fixed but he does look out of place.
