Since becoming fully owned by BDT investments this year I suspect they're doing the ROI measure on the complete line of products. May be a continuing realignment of their offerings as time goes bye.

Man, the Ace Hardware within 1 mile of my house has the 26" Weber Kettle in stock and ready for pickup today. But for the list price of $429. SWMBO would literally kill me if another grill showed up in the backyard, when we have other things we really need...
Maybe I could hide it in the attic or in the garden shed for a year and then somehow say I found it on the side of the road?

Andrrr it does come with a stainless grate, and a pretty nice one at that, I hope to find a similar one for the kamado.

the 26" came with a stainless grate before, but not with the hole in it for accessories. I guess that's the new markup?
The fundamental problem with the 26" is that it is significantly heavier than the 22" and so the three spindly legs are just not sufficient. With a better stand or table, I could see the increase.

WSM 22.5", Pitmaster IQ110, Weber 22.5" Kettle with SNS, Weber 14" Smokey Joe.
Love my Weber 26" kettle. I have a 22 and (2) WSM 22.5's but cook and smoke more on the 26'er than anything else. Another note, Weber's customer service and warranty are spot on. I had a weld come loose at the bowl handle. Sent them a picture of it along with my model number and they sent me a BRAND NEW lower bowl, free of charge. Now I'm just trying to come up with a set-up to use the old bowl for a Santa Maria style grill.

So the cooking grate that comes with it is 3 pieces consisting of:
the main grate
the new rectangular Crafted grate insert inside of that
the old circular GBS grate inside of THAT!
I feel sorry for the people that have to pull that thing in and out all the time. They did say the original hinged version will be available for purchase though.

I gotta say…as I’ve posted before (maybe too often now), I do love my circular GBS grate because it’s easy to clean up in the kitchen sink, but this new thing, I don’t know. Maybe it’s actually great, but at first glance it does appear to be a bit of a monstrosity, with all those breaks for a spatula to get caught up in versus a normal continuous grate surface. I’m all in wrt constructive gadgetry, but maybe this grate just has too many parts? I’d have to see one close up.
