    Question For All Kettle Owners

When 58limited came over today to pick up the Weber kettle I sold him, he also helped me with assembling my new SNS kettle. When attaching the lid cradle assembly to the bowl, there is a vertical support bar which attaches to the cradle and then to the kettle bowl. The support bar has a hole drilled in it, but nothing is supposed to be attached to it, using that hole. The Weber kettle is the same way. Neither David or I could figure out what the hole is for. We were wondering why is there a hole drilled in this piece, if it’s not to be used for anything? Anyone know the reason for the hole?

Maybe is a locator for forming the ends during the manufacturing process?

I just looked and my Weber 26 does not have a hole while my Performer does.

That's right ! We don't read directions and we certainly don't ask for directions when driving because we know a short cut. It's a chromosome thing.

Guessing a manufacturing thing, maybe to hold those pieces in the machine that stamps or bends them. If only Mr Rogers were still on TV he would've taken us on a tour of the Weber & SnS factories then we'd know.

Huskee I know this is trivial in the grand scheme of things, but is there any way you could get David Parish to answer this for us?

        It’s the flange-rod revostrut connector.

Is it there as a joke to drive engineers and the mechanically inclined insane. "Why a hole, why?" 🤯
Some kid might get a finger stuck in it. I wonder if that has happened? 🤔

It does drive people crazy for stuff like that. No way even an infant could get their finger stuck though. Too small.

If there is no other hole in the piece, that hole might be for plating purposes. I worked in a plating factory one summer as a youth and parts needed a hole to hang on the hooks that went into the plating tanks.

That hole was put there on purpose so a bunch of peeps could go at it on-line and wonder why & ask questions & drive each other nuts tryin to figger out what’s fer.
