Chicken thighs or wings, or a good steak. I would advise again pork chops just because they are so much less forgiving. You want to get a couple of good cooks in before you get some bad ones, which will happen. If you want to do a longer smoke then something with high fat content like pork belly or butt. Build up that good feeling!

Welcome fr Cincy Ohio! If you have a spare minute, setup like you normally would. Relax n crack a beverage. This is the best idea I have ever heard: sacrifice a loaf of white bread. Toss it out fast like playing cards, edge to edge. Then in a repeat motion, keep flipping those suckers, noticing what areas brown first. This will tell you more about hot spots n where your specific cook zones are and are not. For the cost of a loaf, you will already know soo much more about yer cooker, plus have the makins fer some stove top. Enjoy! we are glad you are here!

Weber Kettle 22; Broil King Signet; OKJ Bronco
Welcome. If your wife is apprehensive about a pulled pork, try a beef chuck roast and treat it similarly, it a really forgiving cut to smoke. Pulled beef sandwiches are great too. If you haven't come across it yet, find a video showing how to use the "snake method" with charcoal, works great on a kettle. Beef short ribs also come out great.

Greetings from NW Oregon.
May I suggest doing a dry run or two, aka burn-in, to learn how your cook runs?
The following video is a simple way to cook Amazingly Good Chicken.
I do this on a Traeger pellet grill.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to start by saying thank you to y'all for all the kind words and helpful advice! After talking to my girlfriend a bit, she decided on chicken wings (of course I don't have a vortex yet) and I decided on doing a tri tip. I'll be grilling em up today and will definitely provide some pictures. Ideally I'll be smoking the tri tip but a lot of the info on how to cook them is all over the place and sometimes conflicting, so any advice is appreciated!

. I still sometimes "grill" chicken, but mostly do it with the vortex.
