    Weber Smokey Joe

Just bought this on Amazon. I don't really know what I'm going to do with it. I just got it because of the color.

I'll tell you what its good for. A searing station now that you got that water cooker. DWCowles

Small hot fire. Its great for searing.

    Smokey Joe uses:
    • Chimney holder as Jon shows
    • Beach grilling
    • Small loads, like: One or two big steaks, indirectly; or up to 5 burgers, indirectly---both of which can be cooked on ~20 coals, talk about efficiency
    • Preburning wood chunks
    • Decorative planter to house flowers in your BBQ area

Here's a couple pics of my big steaks and some burgers on my little Joe (foil baffle used to help create indirect zone):

Or I could just put it in the storage shed to keep the 22" copper color kettle company

For some reason mine doesn't want to breathe properly and thus I struggle to maintain heat.

So I sometimes use it as a chimney starter stand and for tailgates lid off as a burner for a pot of gumbo or chili that I made.

I rarely use it for cooking. It's mostly used to start briquettes on.

I use mine for either side dishes to go with a long low and slow, or for disparate meats, like ribs on the BGE and chicken thighs on the Smokey Joe.

Jerod Broussard, grill grates for it is a great idea!

I fill that sucker up with charcoal and let it rip.

Why NOT cook on it? When it's just me, I put a kickass sear on a nice porterhouse with it... Like Jerod says, fill it up and let it rip.

I think you should take it on the road and take cool pics of it all over the country for the road Weber thread.

I've used a Smokey Joe more than any other grill for the past 30 years. First of all, the silver is the only good model. the gold is a useless pile of junk so you've got the right one.

I can cook a 5 pound bag of chicken wings on this grill. They're doubled up for awhile but once they shrink it's one layer and they turn out perfectly when the grill is damped down and loaded with Kingsford Original.

I'm at a loss Huskee. It just doesn't breathe well and I don't know why. I work around it.

I can only get the silver to breathe and not the gold because the gold bottom vent is actually on the side. What charcoal are you using? I only use Kingsford Blue and White.

I have the silver and I have used Kingsford Blue and White and Kingsford Competition. I have the same problem with both. It seems better if I have the top vents over the fire. (don) Jr
