I have been coveting this SS ring my neighbor had fabricated for a fire pit ring for years because it fits my grill. He never once used it for a fire just like he never used the electric smoker he scored, or how he only used the 36" Blackstone I found for him for free once in 6 months. Anyway, I've been telling him if he ever got rid of it that I want it and today was the day.
My thinking is I can use it for a pretty expansive smoker with 2 grates. Perhaps I'll buy the SNS grate for the bottom with my XL SNS and use the current grate up top. I'm also thinking I can use it to setup a rotisserie. Currently my only option is my gas rotisserie so charcoal would be great. I'm also wondering if I can use this rig like a PBC and hang meats in it.
I will need to roll the edge on one side somehow for a more snug fit.
Not sure how much of an edge you need. If it's only 1-2mm (2-4mm overall in diameter) then a piece of aluminium flat bar would be easy enough to form around the edge and attach by rivetting.
Yesterday he let me use his truck to haul a few loads of crap away. He's a great guy. I have tried to get him to use his gear. I even bought him a kettle once that he never took across the street. I ended up giving it to another friend who does use it.
