I own a 22 inch Weber that I use with a SnS. It's somewhat cramped at times. Do y'all think I should look at the Hovergrill or should I upgrade to a 26 inch Weber--which I assume will also accommodate a Hovergrill?

I have a 22" and 26", both with a SnS. I like having both. Big cooks - I use the 26" and smaller cooks on the 22", or cook on both at the same time when the need arises to cook a lot of food, or cook at different temps. I would think that you'll have hotter temps on the Hovergrill so you would have to manage that, and you would have to measure how thick your food can be on the Hovergrill and not hit the lid (Boston Butts for example), and under the Hovergrill with space for air flow.
Editing after seeing @Jerod Broussard's comment: GET A 26" and SnS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Last edited by fuzzydaddy; December 22, 2015, 06:56 PM.

It is getting late, almost bed time, I haven't eaten supper, and I got at least 2 hours left on a brisket I need to slice and chop to bring to work with me at 0445 tomorrow. Something had to give....
If I had a 26 I think I would sleep in it before the first cook, after that it would just get weird

Weber Summit Kamado with SnS and Vortex.. Broil King Baron, Primo Oval Junior. Primo XL. Love grilling steaks, ribs, and chicken. Need to master smoked salmon. Absolutely love anything to do with baking bread. Favorite cool weather beer: Sam Adams Octoberfest Favorite warm weather beer: Yuengling Traditional Lager. All-time favorite drink: Single Malt Scotch
Given the size difference of the two kettles, is it more difficult to maintain temps with the 26' and SnS? I currently use a 22 and SnS, but I would sometimes love some more room.

David Parrish ...
Having no, zero, zilch experience with a Kettle... This is valuable information.
Next question. Can I use lump coal instead of briquettes? It would be nice to only stock 1 kind of coal.
-
Breadhead, you definitely can use lump charcoal. But bear in mind that if you use the SnS, their instructions are all based on using Kingsford Blue Bag, so you will have to do your own experimenting. I have a good friend with a Weber, and all he uses is lump charcoal. I have used both in my kettle. Using lump is a little scary to me, since it tends to throw off some pretty big sparks!

It's actually easier to maintain temp on the 26", but the fuel won't last quite as long and temps over 400F can be hard to maintain. Fuel will still last 8 hours on a 26" when cooking at 225F, but you wont' get the 11+ hours of cook time you get on the 22" with one load of fuel at 225F.
I'm fine with that tradeoff because it's very easy to refuel the SnS and I don't often cook above 400F on the indirect side.

This is a little off-topic, but it may be a driving factor in my decision to purchase another grill. Does anyone know of a mod for older kettles to add the ash catcher? I have an older model, that just has the ash tray underneath. It catches the ash all right, but I sometimes get small embers in there, and it does get windy around my house. If I can mod the one I have, I will probably go with that route. If not, there may be a new 26" in my near future!

http://weberkettleclub.com/blog/2014...er-ots-to-otg/ This article describes two ways to do it. But you'll have to buy/obtain an ash catcher.1 Photo

Boss, Do You Take Trade Ins? ðŸ‘ÂðŸ‘Â😇ðŸ‘ÂðŸ‘Â. Dan
-
LOL, I wish! The cost to ship the units back and forth would exceed the cost of just buying a new one. It costs us more than $9.95 to ship these, we absorb the cost in the price of each unit.
-
OK I take that back. The cost to send and return both units would approach the cost of buying a unit, not swapping, but it'd still be cost prohibitive to you as a customer. I better go drink more coffee.
