    New weber kettle

I am excited. I bought a new Weber 22inch kettle today. I got it for cooking hamburgers for my uncles 100th birthday party.
but I ma excited to also use it as a smoker. I have read Ron's article on setting it up with a fan.
So I most likely have many questions about using the kettle as a smoker or just a grill. I bought the premium version.

    Happy 100th, Uncle rlozinak!

I have the Performer myself. You will grow to love the gas assist for starting a chimney!

It smokes well, but they’re really all different. One will seal well, the next one will leak like crazy. Mine leaks; with all the vents closed, it runs 240°. I got some clamps, and with it clamped, and both vents open a crack… it runs 240°.

I got all the stuff to add a controller, but I haven’t installed anything yet. It looks pretty simple, though.

All I’ve ever smoked on mine is ribs, and they were excellent, as good as on the BGE. I wouldn’t hesitate to do brisket, pork butts, beef ribs, whatever.

Ya really need to go ahead and add the controller so you can smoke at 240°.

Nice. A Weber kettle always has a place in a Pitmasters stable of cookers.

Congrats, you will enjoy it. Like anything, little idiosyncrasies to learning yours. Like Mosca said, they all run a bit different. Now start saving for your 26 kettle, and more food to grill.🔥

The kettle is so versatile, you can do almost everything on it. Enjoy your new cooker. I smoked 2 chuckies yesterday with just the SnS and they were great. I have smoked butts, ribs, briskets, wings, turkey, etc. Yes, mine leaks a little smoke but that has not hurt anything I have cooked. I have a Vortex and a roti as well and I have not needed a blower/controller yet, but as always, YMMV. Enjoy.

Great purchase. I thought the gas assist was just a gimmick when I bought mine, but I use it every time now.

rlozinak Congratulations, that's super exciting for you and for your uncles! I have tripled down on my 22" Weber - I have in the last month purchased an Arteflame, a Santa Maria grill, and a 22" stainless steel cooking grate with a hinge sized for my SNS. My PBC is getting lonely . . .

I know what you mean. I am already looking at getting a Drip N griddle cast iron and the Slow N Sear insert.

@ RichieB turned me on to a pizza accy ( with a rotisserie! ) that I have used with great success on a 15 lb pork shoulder. No pizza yet, but cannot wait to. 22 n PBC fill my needs!

                      WooHoo! New cooker day!

There is so much you can do with a properly set up kettle. Fans are nice, but by no means required. Have fun with the new toy, and post lots of pics so we can enjoy the journey with you.

Yep I can see some good stuff coming off that kettle in the very neat future.
installing a fan and controller is pretty simple. I just installed one in my second kettle this weekend. Let me know if you need anything and maybe I can help.
