    Taking a Kettle home

I had to retire a unique double walled charcoal grill to the dumpster. After some 20+ years, it had sprunk a rust leak beyond repair. I have 3 basic Weber 22" kettles out on the side porch test kitchen here at work. I have the Arteflame grill attachment that will go home with it. I bought that Santa Maria device that I'm looking forward to trying. There's not been a fire in one of them! So, new kettle -- YIPPEE!!!

You're gonna love playing with that Santa Maria attachment. It's a lot of fun. I put a little vegetable oil on the rails and it slides up and down like super smooth.

I'm sure I will! Thanks for the tip on the rails. The Arteflame is going to need to be reseasoned. Got some pretty good rust going on. Even found the SnS charcoal holder with the water slot.

My new favorite way of cooking, at least for now.....

Excellent. I’m just getting back into using a kettle, now that I appreciate its capabilities. In the past the kettle was always a leave behind when moving.

CandySueQ have fun with that kettle! I think both the Arteflame and the Santa Maria attachment will make for a lot of fun! If I didn't have a dedicated griddle, the Arteflame or even the SNS plancha would already be in my backyard. The Arteflame has the advantage that you can add fuel to the grill during the cook.

I plan to eventually build a nice fire pit in the backyard and will probably get one of those cooking grates that swings out over the fire, so I've been holding off on the Santa Maria attachment for the kettle...

EDIT: I did a double take. I thought you only used pellets for cooking. What are kettles doing on the porch of the test kitchen at work? Although I did read an old thread about smoke pots today, and it looks like that would be a good way to use pellets in my kamado as a source of smoke...

I love my charcoal grills! Boss told me to consider taking the other 2 Kettles home -- got to figure space on the patio if I do that! But I could have a dedicated spot for the Arteflame, the Santa Maria and the pellet-fire attachment for a Weber that's stored away. I cook on pellets too. Currently compete with an offset and a pellet grill. I just pass on gas!

CandySueQ Patio? I figured your entire backyard was full of cookers...

I also just ordered the Santa Maria, it was a DTro post on Show us What you're cooking that pushed me over the cliff. SO EXCITING!! Can't wait to see what you do with it
