Looks like Weber finally released the 70th anniversary kettles. Pretty sharp looking, but holy crap they're expensive! At $440, they're nearly as expensive as a performer premium! That's a hard pass for me

I have a buddy up in Maine who found a vintage Weber kettle at the dump which was still very nice! He brought it home and cooks with it today! I saw it when I was up there visiting and one of the main differences I noticed compared to the modern kettles was the thickness of the steel of the bowl and lid. Very thick - nearly indestructible. No wonder they lasted so long back in the day! That thickness might have helped put Weber on the map. And it might justify the $440 price if this retro kettle was thick steel like the old days but the ad doesn't mention anything. Thermometer built into the lid? I don't believe that's vintage or retro. Also, I preferred the old system with the open pan underneath catching the ashes. I find the modern system is awkward. Probably just me though. I hate change.
Why can't we go back to the 1950's? Everybody was happy! -Alex Keaton

Yeah I don't like those 3-dampers underneath models. My old one, like 1980s old, had the one touch system but also had the simple tray underneath. It also had TWO handles (made of wood) - one on each side of the kettle. Sadly it's long gone, but I saved the tray underneath and now use it on my current more modern (but still old) simple Weber. I hate that it only has only one (plastic) handle though. And I had to replace that one touch assembly with a new one - pretty easy.

My MCS is strong here w/the yellow, mainly b/c yellow is my young son's favorite color, I like unique stuff and I'm always looking for an MCS justification (and now have two reasons), lol.
I have 9 cookers and really only use a few while the rest sit until I get the urge to play around/do something different, so this is simply a vanity/FOMO buy, if I do it.
I recently gave away a black Master Touch and older Slow n Sear insert to a friend w/limited funds b/c he was in analysis paralysis mode on where to spend some long saved (and wife approved) cash on a first cooker.
I told him use the kettle/SnS insert to figure out what he likes and doesn't like, save more and then spend if he needs additional functionality.
I have a red limited edition Kettle, which is one of my favorite daily drivers and I rarely used the Master as a second/back up cooker b/c when I needed more space than my 22 I just went to the Summit Charcoal.
I did just rent an office space for less distraction than working from home so maybe I'll slide a PK or the Red Kettle over there an put the yellow at home...I think I just talked myself into it by typing.

Yeah $440 + tax is a hard pill to swallow. Especially since the Weber only colors of the Master touch were $249 (now$299) when they came out.
Edit: I think even the 26" Glen Blue was $399Last edited by JohnPaul; May 10, 2022, 02:56 PM.

MCS strikes like a Ninja in the night.
Yellow ordered and in process...it was hard not to get the green as well.
My wife gave up a long time ago in terms of trying to reign me in so when this lands on the driveway and I say it is a limited edition, she is going to laugh and say "another limited edition...ok, sure".

I initially really wanted to get one of these, they are delightful - rock n roll blue would be the one. But I think the contemporary master touch color offerings are also pretty fresh, cream, smoke, slate, and at $299 much more palatable. Curious to find out if its more stable with the solid metal triangular base. I love my weber and the food it turns out but the wobble not so much.

Weber must hav these stocked in full b/c mine got a tracking number within an hour of ordering and will be to my home by tmw, end of day.
I have a 36hr shot to Nashville on business Fri AM to Sat PM (early), but I'll likely assemble it Sat night or Sun AM and do a couple 2in thick bone in ribeye on it Sun afternoon.
I'll post up some pics of the final cooker assembly and the steaks (assuming I don't ruin them).
