Well I picked it up today. It came with the house the guy had never used it himself. He said the previous owner was an engineer and had meticulously maintained the grill over the years.

For $100 and the propane tank included.....that's a steal. Good buy sir!

It even came with the original cover and removable thermometer.

So did you fire it up? Good burners and flame pattern? Those things last forever, and usually all you have to replace are the burners and the flavorizer bars that shield the burners. I can usually get 10 years out of a set.

Attjack Haha maybe you need to hand off the Spirit and keep this old Genesis for yourself!

If I hadn't built it in the e210 I might have considered it! But it'll be a better fit at my sister's cabin where those nice side tables will come in handy. My gas grill is always my secondary at best anyway.

God point Attjack and I was forgetting the nice job you did building in the e210. You are a good brother, setting her up with a grill that the family should get use out of for many years, with proper upkeep.

Agreed. Not $50 Santa Maria good but still nice.

Hahaha, no but I doubt you're going to throw another $250 and a bunch of elbow grease at it. But back to the gas grills, I honestly expect my old Genesis to last at least another 20 years.

I would have restored the Santa Maria for sure. I was also prepared to rebuild this grill but was pleased to see it didn't need it. I feel like it easily has a decade of trouble-free usage before it needs new parts. I guess the only exception would be some small holes in the cover. I should try to patch those.

I found a pic of that awful grill my sister had. That thing sure did suck.

Good catch jfmorris I had just removed it and brushed it. I apparently put it back in upside down.

Does your older grill have that additional warming rack too? Its cut off in this picture but you can see it above. What is that little hanging rack for? Anything in particular?

Attjack my 2002 Genesis does not have the rack hanging up in the lid that you are talking about, but I've seen it. I think my Dad's 1985 model with the cedar side tables had it. It's just a little higher and farther from the heat than the one you are showing, maybe a bun warmer. I have so far been able to find replacements for that rack on my 2002 Genesis, as they are nickel plated and in my case rust up every few years. Those main grates on the one you got look pristine!

jfmorris it's a funny little rack. If it was on my own grill I would probably find some good uses for it!

You are correct those grates are almost perfect. I would have bought my sister grill grates during the recent seconds sale f they were anywhere near worn out. Lucky for both of use they are solid.
