Well, I went and did it. I *said* I was not going to buy another gas grill, and was saving my pennies for a Grilla. I said that my 2002 Genesis Silver A 2 burner with Grillgrates was getting the job done for me. Yet today a clearance grill at Home Depot ended up in my truck!
I was in Home Depot today looking for Weber charcoal (sadly it was $10.08 at my HD and not $3.90), and they had one Genesis II 4 burner still on clearance, in the smoke color - and it was down to $399 (was $899 in the summer). At that price point, I decided it was worth taking home. They also had the 6 burner model, down to $599, but I feel that its almost too large, and since they discontinued the 6 burner, probably will be harder to get parts for. I've been really impressed with the new GS4 flame tubes and ignition system on my son's new Spirit II, which it shares with the Genesis II. While I don't use gas as often as I used to, when I do, as in 2 weeks ago, I was cooking 40 burgers, and the old 2 burner required me to do 3 or 4 batches of burgers. This one should cut down on length of time I stand out there flipping burgers and such for hot and fast cooks. Which will especially be good if its in a monsoon or freezing cold, which has been the conditions of late.
For now I'll just take the Grillgrates from the old small Genesis and toss them on top of the cast iron grates, to give me a griddle area. I am sure by Memorial Day I'll have a full replacement set of Grillgrates on there.
This helps my youngest daughter out too. Her boyfriend, likely to be fiancé soon, comes from a family of non grillers. She was appalled to learn that the "grill" at his house was.... ELECTRIC! She told me it is like a George Forman grill on legs. She ridiculed him over it (that's my girl!). Since they are likely going to end up married, she wants me to send the old Genesis over there to live.
Now I gotta go to Amazon and find a cover, as they had none to fit it at Home Depot, and I am not impressed with the Weber covers lately anyway.

For now it will go into "storage" under its cover at the end of the house next to a grill I am holding for my other daughter's husband while they live in an apartment that doesn't allow grills.
