    Recommendations for a portable gasser

We recently joined the RV crowd. Seems the main activity for us when camping (it actually called glamping) is bbq, cooking and drinking. I got the small Green Mountain model, Davy Crockett thinking it would work as a good all around smoker and grill. It’s not much good as a grill, so I added a Webber Jumbo Joe to the trailer.

We spent the new year holiday at a campground, that didn’t allow charcoal or even the wood pellet grill! The trailer is on a cement pad and it’s winter time, but this is California, home of the carbon footprint nazi’s. So, now looking to add some kind of gas grill to the mix. Looking for recommendation on a portable gas set up? I thought many others here have similar requirements.

I love this little grill. The Weber Q1200. I bought one for our warehouse, to cook burgers and brats for the guys on Friday afternoons.

It is rugged and it is pretty efficient. It runs on those little propane tanks. You can grill anything from steaks to burgers to salmon. I have done pretty much everything on this little grill, except smoke.

They also sell a handy cart for it too. This is what I would recommend. And it stores well.

Thanks Spinaker, looks a little on the smallish side, but I see they also have a Q2000 model, which is larger, I assume would work equally well.

Actually the Q2200 is the one I have if I'm not mistaken (I bought it off Craigslist). The one thing I don't love about it is that it only has one burner.

I would agree. That is a draw back. I don't think the grilling surface is big enough for them to justify it. Attjack

I have the 2200 with the collapsible stand that folds down flat. It works great. You do have to keep the burner clean but that's no big deal. Cast aluminum, ceramic covered cast iron grate and stainless steel burner; it will last for ever.

Feed me the right food and I am a portable gasser. And same as any grill, I should not be kept indoors or in enclosed spaces...

      If you're feeling extravagant: https://www.bbqguys.com/tec/cherokee...s-grill-chfrlp

This is the only gasser I have (since 2014). Very portable, even has a bag it goes into. Full size or small propane bottle. But it's expensive, and if I'd had twice as many bucks, I'd have gotten their portable G-Sport which has stainless body instead of the aluminum one. It gets hot, fast!

Holland Grill makes a very nifty one if you like Holland Grills like I do.

Holland looks interesting. Never heard of them, no dealer with in 50 miles of my house, but they will sell direct...

That’s insane that they don’t allow use of a pellet or charcoal grill at a campground. Who travels with a gas grill? I agree with the others who recommended the Weber Q series. Seems portable and can be stored easily, and used with small or full size LP tanks.

Ok, I can see the wildfire issue, we had a lot of fires back east in 2016, many set intentionally. I don’t see how a pellet grill however is a fire hazard.

It comes from folks who do not dispose of coals properly. Colorado implements similar restrictions when fire danger is high.

It shouldn't be an issue but the unfortunate truth is that some people are dumb.

I also see a portable made by Napoleon, which has a gold medal review here in Amazing Ribs equipment reviews. Looks like a good possibility.

The new Napoleon TravelQ 285X is one impressive little portable gasser, with some unique features not found from competitors.

I like that it has 2 burners instead of one like the Weber Q.

I use a Coleman RoadTrip grill at the NASCAR races. I have the Coleman griddle for it as well. Comes in handy for cooking breakfast and or tortillas / quesadillas.

we carry the weber 200 (now 2000) series. it's a little bigger than the 100 (1000) series and provides considerable more grill space. one of my RVing buddies carries the 100 series with a family of 5. I am a family of 3 and I couldn't do with less than the 200. Go check them out at a weber dealer and make the size determination for yourself. either way its a great travel option.

I don't have as much good to say about weber's stands though. They're too low (and im only 5'10") and wobbly. I built my own.

How well does it do at low temps? Could you do a rack of ribs, for example?

mine hits 300+ pretty easily on low and thats on colder days. I think she may run a tick hot for low and slow IMO.

It went well. I was flying solo so I grilled one lonely burger.

Half pound burger. Yeah the grill is bigger than you might think it's 280 square inches.

All the above are good recommendations. Here's a couple more:
We reviewed this solid portable gas grill that employs Char-Broil's TRU-Infrared design. Grill2Go earns our Best Value Platinum Medal.

Weber's Go-Anywhere Portable Gas Grill has been copied by other manufacturers, but as usual, no one does it better.
