    Twin Eagles 36 inch Review

I had a Napoleon Prestige Pro 500…which was OK…but it flared a lot, even though I cleaned it every other cook, and the drip pan was very hard to put back in…I think that is a design flaw. I had to get on my knees and had to get it just right…to get it to seat in the brackets to reinstall it. Note…I have had several back surgeries…so it made it that much harder. So…I looked for a better grill…

I decided to buy a Twin Eagles 36 inch grill and cart, with the rotisserie. Our first meal was a rotisserie duck, with a pan of potatoes below. Wow! The potatoes turned out melt in your mouth tender…no burned areas at all…and the Rotisserie duck was perfectly cooked. The rotisserie turned three times as fast as the Napoleon…and that was good…the duck was just perfect…even the wings were not burned. I think the ceramic disks made a big difference. I’ve never had a grill like that…but dang, it was worth it! I grill a lot, and my wife was very impressed with how much better the duck and potatoes turned out. So was I. Now, in a sense, it is not a fair comparison…Twin Eagles cost three times the Napoleon…but again…the quality of the meal was noticeably better…by a lot…so…just wanted to share our experience. Please know, I am not slamming Napoleon…it was ok…but this grill is just so much better..you get what you pay for…at least in this case…

I too have a Twin Eagles 36" gasser. It has been wonderful. Very solid build. I have one sear burner that is fantastic for quickly putting on a sear on two zone steaks. The regular burners also burn hot and very evenly across the grill. I have needed a few parts over the 5 years that I have had the Twin Eagles. I have found their service and parts departments to be very good.

I cook more on my charcoal and wood burning grills/smokers but the gasser is fantastic when I am in hurry or on weeknights when I need to get the meat on the table quickly.

Twin Eagle grills are expensive but built solidly for the long run. I couldn't be happier with mine.

Hi Brian. Please see my reply to you regarding my Twin Eagles grill. Thank you!

Hi Brian. I have some questions about my Twin Eagles grill. First, sadly, after only six days, my rotisserie isn’t working….the company said they would repair it but that it would take two weeks to manufacture the part, send it, and get a repairman to me. They said it is the sprocket assembly. I’m hoping this is not typical…

What have you had to repair on your Twin Eagles grill?

        Hi Andrew
I have not had any issues with my rotisserie. For having to fabricate a new part, two weeks seems like a quick turnaround. As I understand it, Twin Eagles does all of their metal fabrication at the plant in the Los Angeles area. I have only needed to buy a few little things like light bulbs and a switch. They shipped out those small parts, and I got them in about a week. The little repairs that I have needed were simple enough for me to do.

I did do a major cleaning this year. That required some disassembly. Everything I needed to learn for that job was covered in the videos on the Twin Eagles website. It took me most of a Saturday to complete but it was a real deep cleaning of every nook, cranny and crevice. Among other tasks, I also took the front panel off to replace a little LED bulb that went out. A video showed me how to do that. I took the burners out to clean under them. Wow! those suckers are some serious brass and steel. My grill shines like new now.

I keep my grill grates very clean. I brush them vigorously with a wire brush before and after every cook. It only takes a few minutes. Much easier to keep the grates clean than to let them get really crusted over and try to bring them back.

Brian, thank you. That’s reassuring. Hopefully TE Grill will fix this before the end of the month. I want this expensive grill to work for years…I love to grill, rotisserie, etc. I also have an XL Big Green Egg I use for briskets, smoked potatoes, smoked cabbage, etc. I used Meathead’s method to find the settings on the Twin Eagles grill at 225 and 325 degrees, and Warp 10, and used it to reverse sear some steaks…it worked just great. The steaks were incredibly tender. Thank you again for answering…I needed that reassurance that this grill is worth the $$. Have a terrific week.

You have a BGE? I don't have one but I have cooked on one that a buddy has. The BGE can put out some wonderful smoked meats. But I think the learning curve on the eggs is steep. Your TE grill will be a snap to manage compared to the BGE.

Grilling on the TE is pretty straightforward. Maybe the most important little tip is to let it come up to full heat before putting your meat on. I have found that 15 minutes is good and 20 minutes is even better. Burners are hot but the grill is big.

My XL BGE is great for briskets, smoked cabbage, smoked potatoes, and turkey. There is a learning curve, but I enjoyed teaching myself how to cook on it. What’s great is that you can smoke a brisket for 12+ hours at 250 degrees without adding any lump charcoal. The one thing to consider is that for severe weather (hail) you need to be able to wheel it to a covered area…since it is ceramic…but I already knew that….

Update on my experience with Dometic (parent company of Twin Eagles) and Barbeques Galore….
Only a few days after getting this high end grill, the rotisserie squeaked loudly…Dometic sent a video and told me to remove a screwed cover and lubricate the rotisserie chain. Only two of the four screws came out…one slotted out…so the rotisserie is useless. I contacted Dometic…short story is that they sent after two weeks, replacement parts to most likely a wrong home address…even after I warned them the address did not look like any kind of barbecue repair business…and the phone number they had on file was some kind of medical business….and I’ve never heard from a tech to fix it. Barbecues Galore says to keep working with Dometic…so they have refused to order me a new grill. The store manager says it is not up to him….though he happily accepted over $10,000 from me for the grill. Supposedly, they are going to try again to get the parts and find someone to install the under warranty…but so far I am one frustrated customer.

Update #2…Barbeques Galore store manager contacted Dometic, and he told me Dometic is sending parts again…this time to a verified address and repair person…but at least he is trying, and keeping me in the loop. I just want a grill that works…

Sorry to hear that your dream grill is starting out as a nightmare. Is everything besides the rotisserie working as expected?

              #11
The grill works well, except the rotisserie…but I bought it to use the rotisserie a bit…along with the regular grilling…

That is terrible. When I’m was looking for a new gas grill I shopped Barbecues Galore which left me with less than a positive experience. I am sorry your experience which getting warranty repairs is such a pain.

Update #3: Twin Eagles finally sent me the rotisserie sprocket assembly and the repairman came and replaced the mismanufactured one. I’ll cook using it tomorrow, but I think it is finally fixed. The repairman said he has had to replace a lot of these right out of the box…meaning new grills. He said once it is replaced with a good one, we are likely to have no trouble going forward. But you would think Twin Eagles would have addressed this in manufacturing if in fact it is a common problem for brand new grills. At least mine is now fixed (I hope!)

Last update…the replaced sprocket assembly for the rotisserie is making loud, squeaking noises…metal on metal noises…so I now wish I had never bought this Twin Eagles grill. They took over a month to send me the replacement part, and it still does not work. The grill itself works fine…but the rotisserie is a problem…and it was an expensive option to add to the grill. I rotisserie a bit, as well as grill, so this is not a small thing for our use of this grill. And now I can’t use it…and have not been able to without these problems. Based on my experience, I would suggest avoiding buying anything from Twin Eagles or Delta Heat…they are both manufactured by Dometic.

I would ask BBQ Galore to take back the unit. Document the request describing the issue. If they refuse I believe you have 60 days to file a complaint with your credit card company and contest the charge, explaining you never got what you paid for and the merchant failed to meet their end of the transaction. That is assuming you paid by credit card. Your issue is with the seller, not the manufacturer in this case.

Any new updates on the TE rotisserie motor issue? Just curious. I love my TE 36" with infrared sear and a rotisserie.

I have an observation about the rotisserie. When I bought my TE, they were going with an update to an internal chain (I think) driven rotisserie. I got a $1500 discount to buy the old model with the external mounted rotisserie motor. It has worked flawlessly. Sometimes less is more when products get updated. But I use my Weber charcoal kettle rotisserie more than the TE gasser.
