Like some of the others, we've been very happy with our Weber Genesis. A real workhorse.
Got it two years ago to replace a Summit that we had for over 20 years. Replaced the Summit only because it was skunked, literally. Skunk crawled up and died in it while we were on a long trip. No recovering from that!
That has to be the most apocryphal grill destruction event in human history, theroc. Grills can catch fire and burn up, leave the earth in tornados, get smashed against walls in hurricanes, but to have a skunk go in there and die, yeah, it really doesn’t get any worse than that, I don’t think. Thanks for telling that one! 🍷
I have the Napoleon 500 Prestige Pro and can't really say anything bad about it. Not to be argumentative, but there really is more to the world of quality grilling than just Weber.
Henrik I can’t read Swedish, but that Bluegaz does look really, really nice. Seems to be very high quality just based on the pics. How much extra is that side section that’s shown in a couple of the pics? That grill with that side shelf/cabinet addition would be an awesome rig that I just can’t imagine anyone not being completely thrilled with.
To me, it depends on the mindset.
When I want a "grilling experience" I use wood or charcoal. When I want the "outdoor kitchen experience" of cooking the easiest, most reliable way, it's Weber Genesis for 16 years and counting.
So to carry that analogy over to a gas grill, if your friend wants to get her husband a certain grilling experience that's unique or artistic or luxurious, then go with Bluegaz. But if you're trying to help her get him the outdoor kitchen, Weber all day.
(Yes, my name is Weber, no I don't have a stake in the company or get a commission!)
Gotta love the pit! Thank you all for great input! I learned a few new things (which is always great). It’s cool to hear the Weber is such a quality product. Also, I thought the stainless steel would be better (thinking of the grates), but perhaps messy to clean? I do like stainless steel grates on my own grills, they are the only ones I can get properly clean.
Anyhow, I’ll look into the Bluegaz a bit more, I like the look of it so need to see more vids to see if it seems to hold up. I’ll recommend that one or a Weber.
My Summit is all stainless and yes it does have some spots that have gotten darkened from smoke/grease/whatever especially around the edge of the lid, but it does not bother me at all. And it has heavy stainless grates that I do love, although those are not unique to the stainless grills.
I have a six year old (I think, don't know for sure because I bought it used four years ago) Weber Genesis II with three burners. I absolutely love it. It puts out an amazing amount of heat and everything except the flavorizers are in great shape.
I had a Broil King Baron which stayed on the back patio with cover when not in use. The decals (yes stick on decals) on all the knobs lasted a matter of a few weeks. Pretty lame to use stick on decals for something that has to be cleaned and degreased often. The quality of the stainless steel was, to use a technical term, cheezy. The lid fit so poorly that it only took a couple of cooks to go from clean and shiny stainless to a brown, sticky patina.
I got fed up with it and gave it to a neighbor I don't really care for.
