    Recommendation for a gas grill

No, I haven't fallen and hit my head. I'm asking for a friend :-)

I stick with wood/charcoal, but was asked by a friend that wants to gift her husband a quality gas grill for his 70th birthday. Very nice indeed. He has a Blumenthal gas grill today (the Everdure I believe), but it's been around for quite some time and it's time for a new shiny one. He cooks 2-4 times per week on it (good on him), so it's an everyday work horse.

My thinking is: how to find a quality gas grill?

    Personal (highly subjective) opinion:
Most gas grills are just big empty sheet metal cabinets with neon lights around the burner knobs. But there are good ones

Given the current Blumenthal model I'm trying to find something in a similar or higher price range, a grill that is solid but doesn't look like a neon disco. Some grills have side burners, but I don't think that's needed for this one. I'm thinking that quality trumps a whole bunch of bells and wistles.

I did look at Grilla Grills, as I know several members have it and rate it highly. The big bummer is that it isn't available in Sweden. Neither is MAK. I mostly find Weber, and they're fine and all, but look pretty standard.

I don't seem to find many options, but figured this is the right forum to ask: What would you recommend in terms of a quality gas grill? Let me know if you have any ideas and I'll see if it's available in Sweden.

    PS
The brands I have found to be available here (but there could me more, the list is not complete):

    Weber
    Napoleon
    Broil King

    DS

    Edit:
I just found another make called Bluegaz, I think/guess it's German, this one doesn't look too bad?

Bluegaz Z är en kraftfull gasolgrill med oöverträffad kvalitet och stilren skandinavisk design. ✓ Snabb leverans ✓ Fri frakt över 1000 kr. Köp här!

Sorry for the Swedish web page, but you can see the images et.c

I've had my Weber Summit for 25 years now. Use it all year round extensively. Not one issue or part failure. Need I say more?

I agree with @captanlee. I have had my Weber Summit for 10 years, no issues. However, it does have extras, like a rotisserie and side burner. I don't use side burner much, but I have made many legs of lamb on the rotisserie.

On the one hand, you describe the desire for something really basic and standard, a high quality product that delivers what it promises.

On the other hand, you dunk on Weber for… being really basic and standard, a high quality product that delivers what it promises.

No knock intended, just a gentle jest. I do that all the time, my eyes glaze and I get all Ren and Stimpy over feature creep.

    Recommend the Weber.

Good point actually. I guess my "dunk" refers more to the look than the functionality. It has great reputation and as captainlee says, it's very durable.

Weber. My three burner Genesis is still going strong after 26 years.

If I were getting a New Gas Grill today it would probably be a Weber. SS Grills don't impress me as they get smoke stained and are a constant pain to keep clean IMO. I prefer a black Grill Cabinet they are easier to keep clean. So many higher end grills are SS. Just my rant. BTW my Weber Genesis is a 2002 model has the original burner and gets moderate use but it is stored in the garage.

Agreed on the stainless being a pain.

SS is the only thing I don't like about my MAK Pellet Grill. I've learned to clean it often then it's not bad.

My Weber Summit is a workhorse, and I abuse it a fair bit. I have seen a number of favorable comments about Napoleon on here as well.

I will note that for the Summit if I need a part I generally can't find it in the local stores (unlike Genesis parts), and have to either go to Weber or online somewhere.

Weber for the Win! My weber genesis is also 26 years!

Weber, due to the ability to replace parts fairly easy. I have two Weber gassers at the lake house, my dad’s is 35 years old or so…he’s replaced the parts and it keeps on cookin! My Weber is 20yo and is just as good as it was when I bought! Only reason it’s here, I built a grill area with a built in.

I think your friend would be happy with a great grill like that!

Blaze makes a really nice grill and has an entry level cart that starts at $1900 (in line with the Bluegaz). The unit is all 304 stainless steel with burners pushing 14,000 btu each. This is the LBM 25 inch 3-burner. Another $600 will get you the LTE 32 inch 4-burner with rear infrared burner and grill lights. They have a lifetime warranty on the control valves, cooking grids, stainless steel housing, stainless steel burners, flame tamers, heat zone separators, and all other stainless steel components.
I've owned one since 2020 and absolutely love it. Built like a tank and looks brand new while being stored on the deck without a cover.

Blaze was going to be my suggestion.

I'm surprised that you are not building one yourself. Just order replacement burners from Weber or any high quality manufacturer, and build a tank of a grill around them. Should only take a day or two.

I will go with Weber, mostly due to warranty and parts availability. That may be true for Napolean too.

I technically still have a 23 year old Weber Genesis Silver A - it resides on my daughter's patio, and apparently is only used by me if I come over there and grill something. I replaced a few items like the burner tubes and flavorizer bars 1 to 2 times in all those years of ownership. I've currently got a 2019 Genesis II E-410 and don't expect it to last nearly as long, as just tapping the metal - everything feels to be made of thinner material. But it works very well, and they replaced the warming rack and flavorizer bars under warranty at 6 years old (it has a 10 year full warranty).

If a Summit is in the budget, those tend to use heavier steel and stainless, and likely will outlast a Genesis.

I use my Weber Genesis at least thrice a week. I have a side burner too that I use all the time to start my charcoal chimney on the weekends. Love it.

SheilaAnn you only need the burner for the first 5 minutes. Not much ash in that timeframe.

Yeah, I love it for that. Matter of fact, that’s all mine gets used for actually. SheilaAnn, there’s a solid cover that sits over the burner to prevent stuff from falling into it, any ash just falls onto the cover and below it, and can just be blown away.

I got the idea from Harry Soo actually. And no issues at all. Yes there’s ash on the areas around the burner but nothing my leaf blower doesn’t blow away. The cover protects it well. I’ll use mine for 15 minutes sometimes when I need to light a whole chimney. It’s really the only thing I use it for and I love it more in the winter too.

I have a Broil King S590. Five burners, rotisserie, and a side burner. It’s a solid grill and well built. I just striped out the burners for a thorough cleaning last week. No problems whatsoever. There is a review by Max on the free side that influenced my decision.

It’s at least ten years old and is stored uncovered in my garage. I use the side burner occasionally but have other options for outdoor burners. I don’t really use the rotisserie because I have a PBC.

It did have cheap wheels on it but I changed those out with some industrial type 4” casters.

edit: Max’s review is on the S540 but it mentions the S590 which adds the rotisserie. Those models are discontinued but I would still shop the Broil King’s if looking for a grill
