Hey guys, my Broil King Baron is on it's last legs after server rebuilding operations and I'm looking for a new one. Trying to stay under 1k but have something that will light when I go to cook something. I've read all the AmazingRibs reviews but now I have too many options and can't decide. I just don't want to waste my money and I'd like to get 5-10 years out of one again.

Go with a Weber that meets your cooking needs. I believe Webers have a 10 year warranty.Last edited by LA Pork Butt; December 29, 2024, 08:15 AM.

Weber for the Longevity Win. My Weber Silver B is a 2002 Model. Original Burner yet. I store in the garage and wheel it out to grill...I think that's a big plus for lasting so long.

Smokin-It 3D
Weber Kettle with an SNS
Masterbuilt kettle that I call the $30 wonder grill
Bullet by Bull Grills gasser
Anova WiFi sous vide machine
Thermoworks Thermapen and Chef Alarm
Weber!!!!!!! And I say that because the Weber I grew up with at my parents house, it’s still around working as it did the first day we had it. This thing is 30-40 years old, my dad has put in new parts and it works great. It’s our lakehouse grill, as is my first Weber gasser. You can’t go wrong with Weber!

Cooking gadgets
Weber Summit Charcoal Grill Center
Weber Summit Platinum D6
Blue Rhino Razor
Dyna-Glo XL Premium Dual Chamber
Camp Chef Somerset IV along with their Artisan Pizza Oven 90
Anova WiFi
Thermometers
Thermapen Mk4 - ThermaQ High Temp Kit - ThermaQ Meathead Kit - ThermaQ WiFi - ThermoWorks IR-GUN-S - ThermoWorks Signals & Billows - ThermoPop -ThermoWorks ProNeedle - ThermoWorks TimeStick Trio x2 - and a Christopher Kimball timer - NO, I do not work for ThermoWorks...I just like their products.
Other useful bits...
KitchenAid 7-qt Pro Line stand mixer
A Black & Decker food processor that I can't seem to murder
A couple of immersion blenders, one a "consumer" model & the other a "high end" Italian thing. Yes, the Italian one is a bit better, but only marginally
Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus 8-qt + accessories like egg-bite & egg holders
All-Clad pots & pans, along with some cast iron...everything from 7" Skookie pans to 8.5qt Dutch ovens
Weber GBS griddle, pizza stone, and wok
Knives range from Mercer to F. Dick to "You spent how much for one knife? One knife?!" LOL
I’ve had my Weber Summit Platinum D6 since 2005.
The only repair was to replace a wheel…that I broke. The starter is getting a little flaky but that’s an easy fix.
Can’t speak to the longevity of the new ones…but their reputation was earned for a reason.
Another brand that I would strongly consider is Napoleon. Haven’t used one myself, but they seem well built.

(I've never regretted having too much grate space).
Weber Genesis Gas grill
Weber Kettle grills x 2
I had great success with Weber gas grills having had two in 25 years that had to not only cook, but, survive multiple moves and not always the best care. That said, I will say I have been very pleased with my Napoleon gasser for the last couple of years. Not sure about the pricing of the Napoleon grills anymore as it has been 3 yrs or so since we got it and I’m out-of-touch. However, the build quality is great and it has been a solid performer. Love the rotisserie basket for the Napoleon as it makes the very best chicken wings!

Grilla Silverbac
Grilla Primate
Grilla Kong
Weber Kettle
Camp Chef Escape
Old Hickory Knives
More Cast Iron than I care to admit
What do you typically cook on your gasser? Is it your primary cooker? If so the Weber is probably your best bet. I agree with jlazar I have a Primate and use it daily. My go to all the time. However, I also cook larger stuff on other cookers. You can do burgers, chicken, steaks, etc on the Primate no problem. Just cannot cook at Turkey. If you have other cookers then hands down I agree, go with the Primate.

Cookers:
Oklahoma Joe Offset (older thick steel version!)
Camp Chef Woodwind
OK Joe Bronco
Weber Genesis
Ooni Karu
Weber Kettle
My goal is to eventually have at least one of every style of cooker….. I have work to do. Lol!
Thermometers:
ThermoWorks Thermapen MK4
ThermoWorks Thermapen ONE
ThermoWorks Thermopop
ThermoWorks RFX
ThermoWorks IRK-2 Infrared
Maverick XR-50
TempSpike Plus
Other Gear:
Megaforce 3000 Meat Grinder
Weston 7-pound sausage stuffer
Jerky Gun for making poppers. (Game changer!)
Amaz-N-Tube
Original SnS with drip n griddle
Weber Chimney
Fuels Used:
Splits/Chunks, whatever I can get. Usually B&B competition. Favorites are Cherry, Apple, Post Oak, and Hickory.
Pellets, Lumberjack.
Charcoal, whatever is on sale. Currently have a bunch of KBB. Will eventually try B&B. Use whatever lump is on sale in my Ooni.
Propane, Blue Rhino.
Rubs:
Usually make my own riff’s on Memphis Dust and BBBR. Also use Meathead’s commercial rubs and occasionally try something new. I like a couple from Tuffy Stone and Kinder’s. After several surgeries, I’m very sensitive to “spicy” stuff, so I need to be careful about heat levels.
+1 for the Weber. I have a Genesis 4 burner that I bought back in probably 2013 or 2014. It’s moved across the country twice. The first time (Vegas to Houston) it was damaged pretty badly, but through the local Ace Hardware (Weber authorized rep at the time), they rebuilt it and covered 98% of the cost! It’s lived outside its whole life, though I do cover it when not in use. I’m due to replace burners, but it will be the first time.

Another vote for Napoleon. I replaced a 2008 Weber Summit that I loved - it got trashed in a windstorm. I looked hard at Weber's offerings, but the build quality has changed quite a bit since they moved mfg to China. Weber still back their products, but it is not the same (as with most things these days).

Aren’t the Summits still made in Illinois? Along with most of their charcoal grills…
Granted, they probably have a bunch of imported parts…which is why they can’t claim “Made in USA.”
I’ve not looked for quite some time, because mine is still going strong…but I do recall that they did change things like the grade of stainless when I last looked. That’s a shame because a lot of people WILL pay for a premium product. I paid $1999 for my Summit back in 2005…over $4k by today’s valuation.

Following as I too am looking at grills. I had a Weber 3-burner for over 20 years, and other than a grate replacement and burner replacement it’s been a champ. As others have mentioned, I’m skeptical of Weber now that production is in China due to my significant historically disappointing experience with all-things-China. I’m considering the Napoleon Prestige Pro 665 RSIB as it seems solidly built, and comes with features that Weber doesn’t seem to offer. Their warranty is pretty decent at 15 years as well. I’m also open to the feedback being given to the OP, as I’m pretty early on in my search for a new gasser.

+10 for the Weber. I would still have my 20+ year old Summit Platinum if it hadn't been skunked this year (!). Replaced it with a 4 burner Genesis. Lots of nice improvements in 20 years. Solid. Only complaint so far has been that the handle light pooped out.
