Seriously, it is for a friend as I have not cooked on a gas grill in over 8 years. His name is Craig and he is looking to replace a natural gas, NOT propane Weber 4 burner. I like this part. He said he's looking to spend $3-4k and would go higher per my recommendation.
He said at least a 4 burner with as he described "all the bells and whistles, side gizmos ect...." I'm thinking he means side burner.
So I turn to you my Pit Friends. What would y'all get if money was, for the most part, not an option?
It will be freestanding so not built in.
Kamado Joe Big Joe III
Pit Barrel Cooker
Camp Chef Flat Top 900
Weber Performer 22
PowerFlamer Propane 160
Meater +
Thermoworks Smoke
Thermoworks Thermapen
Temp Spike
Is he looking for something built-in? If he is also incorporating it into an island or something similar, does the budget include that? Or is this just for a mothership sized gas grill only?
Wish I had this 'problem' and what a good friend you are
I was just going to chime in that a little over a year ago, I recommended a Weber Summit S-460 to a friend of a friend who was looking to build one in. She seems quite happy with it and it's in the original price range suggested.
My Summit S-670 has been going strong for 12+ years, and I bought it used. Mine is propane but you can get it in NG last I checked. 6 burners, side burner, rotisserie with infrared top burner.
I second the Weber Summit. I have an E470 (E is Enamel vs S which is Stainless). My is NG and almost 10 years old. The only item that is not needed on that model is the built in smoke box (too much leakage) Other than that it is rock solid
It’s no where near that price, but I bought a scratch and dent Napoleon gasser with infrared burner w/ rotisserie and side burner. Has four zones, very precise too. It’s all stainless and is great for quick grilling. I hardly use it but fits perfectly on my patio where NG is run, so it made sense to put one there.
I haven’t had a need to use their CS, but I bought local so I imagine they’d help me if I ever needed something. So I guess I’m saying, give Napoleon products a look see. After all, it’s your freind’s money. 😅
My last gasser was a Napoleon and After 5-6 years it started rotting out and the igniter took a dump. Also the IR burner became problematic as well. They warranted the IR burner but that one went south a short time after. One of the reasons I no longer trust gassers. Give me real FIRE Thank you.
Personally, I have yet to see a brand beyond Weber or Napoleon in gas grills really justify the price tag. It seems like the quality, fit, and customer service is far below what you’d expect for the price tag and the frills disappoint.
I’d review the Weber and Napoleon gas lineup and go with your favorite model.
https://tecgrills.com/ Makes some high quality grills with replacement components. Also made in the USA. I got one for free but don’t think I’d spend that money on a gasser usually. All that being said. It is a great grill and the heat diffusers can be used to place pots on directly if lacking a side burner.

I assume your friend is here on the East Coast as well, might be worth looking into Wilmington Grills if there is a distributor near you. I've never used one other than at an Air BnB but the thing was mostly neglected and still was in fantastic condition and seemed to perform well. However it doesn't appear any of their models have been tested by Max.
If I were spending a pretty penny on a gasser I'd be looking at their offerings for sure as well as the other typical 2K+ range brands
