What's better than two hands? Two hands and (4) paws.

Nola Mae was dropping the ball to let me know she was being ignored. She finally settled down.

Finally got the cart put together, which was no easy feat considering how difficult it was to take all of the plastic off of each piece, and I had 4 dogs I was wrangling.
I need to adjust the door hinges and figure out how to place the grill top on it.

WI Bubba Agreed. Even with the warnings somebody will ignore them and do something to injure themselves. I am not one of those people. I read and heed.

I just thought it was kind of funny because it seems like every time I moved a piece of packaging, there was another warning. When I set everything out, I was looking at a warning collage, but yeah, all necessary for safety.

I’m with you. I read every word of every instruction manual or warning sticker etc. They’re there for a reason.

Jfrosty27 I have a lot of anxiety, so I read every manual cover to cover and double check everything.
For sure, I am not one of those people who thinks warnings are silly. I hope that is not what my post conveyed.

Spinaker Richard Chrz Purc Thanks, guys.

We put the grill head on it this morning. I will be purchasing a tank today and hopefully posting a cook by the weekend.

That is a good idea, but where do you safely store the extra tank?
I am sure this grill uses a lot of propane compared to my old little CharBroil.

An extra tank makes sense, and I have thought about getting one. I am three minutes away from a Home Depot, so I haven’t bothered with it yet. I’ll probably get one after I experience the nuisance of running out during a cook.

LA Pork Butt And it IS a nuisance! LOL
Nothing worse than grilling up a bunch of short cook things like burgers or hotdogs and hearing pfft pffft pfft as the flame dies out. SMH

Worse still..? A buddy of mine was cooking on his flattop when it went kaput. I asked where his spare tank was, willing to quickly get things back up to speed. He looked at me like I had two heads and a lobster coming out of my left shoulder. ROFL β€œSoooo, no extra tank then?” He now has a spare.

Store outside, on deck/patio, under eve, etc. Altho not recommended, I typically have one in the garage also.

Yeah, I guess I am overthinking. The stores sell the gas exchange tanks, which are stored outside right by the entrances. They are barely protected.

yakima I keep one in the shed. If you don't have a shed, buy a really cheap grill cover, and store it nearby on the patio/deck. Mostly, the cover is for keeping the gas connection clean and dry, hopefully it'll come with a little plastic valve cover. They say it should be away from the house, if possible. I have very little storage in the garage these days, so gas cans, propane tanks, fertilizers, charcoal, stuff like that stay in the shed, which is pretty far from the house.

Re gas exchange tanks. My impression is that it is cheaper to have your own tank refilled. New tanks have, I think, a 12 year life. Then they can be recertified for another, shorter, period. I had one recertified several years ago for $5.00.

              dpearce Thanks for that recommendation.
I just did a search. The Tractor Supply near me and an RV place on the west side of the lake does refills. The closest tank exchange is a little further away than the Tractor Supply, which is about 2.5 miles away.
Just remembered Albertsons has Amerigas exchange and is only about a mile down the road.

Carolyn if you're doing refills, then you shouldn't have a problem with empty versus full. I only mentioned the scale and caution if you're doing exchanges. We have lots of "exchange" points around me, and well... they're not always very dilligent.

Yeah, sometimes cheaper but not always. At least near me. And then there’s the clueless operator that send propane in all directions. Had that happen twice. β€œI am not paying for you to jet propane everywhere just because you aren’t properly trained.” Seriously, one guy wanted to charge me almost double what a fill should cost due to his employees error. Nope.

The advantage of exchange is that the tank is always in compliance AND it’s quick & simple. I always have a spare or two at the ready.

Get 2 tanks, skip scale and gauge. Your arm will become calibrated and able to identify a low tank.
Refill at Tractor Supply. Probably cheapest and longest hours.

yakima I don't use the gauge anymore. After a few years of this, I can tell an empty from a full. Only a recommendation for someone who is new. I literally exchanged a tank a couple weeks ago. The attendant grabbed a "very" empty tank. I laughed and said, this belongs on the bottom shelf. Or somewhere else. She was very nice and I explained to her it was an empty tank. Hopefully they'll come up with a better system for tracking empty's, because I frequent their business for a number of things.

I could be wrong, I think most of the exchange tanks are 15lb vs 20lb you would buy new. I have 3 20lb tanks, bought 2 at Tractor Supply and 1 at Costco.

You are correct. They sell them with approx 15 lbs. I have seen people complain about getting a lot less in them.

I don’t know how true that is anymore…getting a lot less I mean. Blue Rhino took a massive hit on their tank fills a few years back. They lost a fairly large class action lawsuit.

Not that I ever had any issues with their tank exchanges prior to that…but perhaps I was lucky or it was a geographical problem.
