One grill that I believe stands out for evenness of cooking is the Caliber. Their burners are designed to give more coverage, and they also have smaller flames at the rear to counteract the tentacles of most grills to be hotter at the back, just as your typical home ovens are. Their silver series falls into your price range at about 2500 for a 38" without the rotis, and close to 3k with it. It is hard to go wrong with a Napoleon, as they have one of the best warranties in the industry, and great customer service. Their PRO 665 would for the bill nicely, and they do now offer a searing burner accessory.
