    wood sizes

I have a Lyfe Time stick burner- 20x40" cooking chamber - 2 doors - 20 x 20 firebox. I have been cutting the wood in 3-4" chunks but I need to add every 20 min or so. Would larger pieces work better?

Absolutely. My fire box is 24x20. In warmer months I use a box that was meant for charcoal, 16x18", but I use it for splits, In that I use 16-20" cut in half. It keeps the fire more contained and hotter. In colder months I always use full size splits and no basket.

On mine I find that pieces about 10" long, 1/4 or 1/8 split, work well, once it's up to temp and there's a good coal bed going. About the size of a tall beer can. I can get anywhere from 20-35min on average, depending on weather and what wood I'm using. Apple has great longevity, ash (one of my personal favorites) does not.

The key is finding the balance between big enough to not have to add too often, and small enough to keep the temps from getting too high. *This* is the art of running a stick burner!
