I ha never had the problem with any store bought wood, but always had the problem with fresh pecan. I always used the wood. I think IowaGirl may have the answer when she wrote about green wood. Was the hickory store bought or fresh cut?

For smoking, I am a committed stick burner.
For grilling, it's all about charcoal. Almost always HEB brand mesquite charcoal. If not that, then Kingsford mesquite charcoal.
I use mesquite almost exclusively. It pretty much always has wood borers that produce a lot of sawdust. The first time it happened it concerned me greatly. I have a friend who is a former pest control man. I consulted him and he said just store the wood 50 feet from the house and there is no need to worry. I've been doing this for about four years now and so far no issues.Originally posted by Oak Smoke View PostI had the same concerns a few years ago with a trailer load of mesquite. We loaded it late one evening, by the next morning there was dust everywhere. I decided I didn't want anything near my home that would eat wood. I was already writing a check every year to keep termites at bay. I didn't even unload it. I gave it to a friend with a large stick burner. He was glad to get it even with bugs.
