Need to find a good wood company for shipping to S. Ca.
Any recommendations? 20-30% moisture is what's needed.. I'm told that S. Ca. isn't the best for good wood in that moisture range. So I'm looking for a company that'll ship here.
Help
I order from websturantstore.com all the time. They have hickory and mesquite "logs" and they deliver SO fast. I think they're based in PA though so definitely keep an eye on shipping costs, of course.
Cookers:
Large Big Green Egg with a Ceramic Grill Store rack system, and the SnS setup.
Weber Genesis SA-E-330 LP INDIGO with SS Grates, Weber Crafted frame kit, baking stone, griddle (2/3), all from Ace Hardware.
For the first time in a long time I have no kettles as I gave them all away.
Everything Else:
SnS #3 with certificate. I was their first customer.
Sous Vide equipment.
SnS and Thermoworks instant read and leave-in thermometers.
Grill Grates for BGE.
Kingsford Blue Bag, Weber lighter cubes, Weber charcoal chimneys.
Rubs with salt: Meat Church Holy Cow.
Rubs without salt: Home-mixed versions of previously sold SnS Grills Rocky's Rub and Not Just for Beef using their recipe. SPOG.
Spices: Lots of 'em.
Have you checked with The Woodshed in Orange, CA? I dont know what their moisture levels are but its at least more local than shipping cross country. https://thewoodshedoc.com/
Timcee Hard to say... Seeing as I don’t own a KBQ, I’m not certain temperamental they can be with different woods and/or moisture levels.
Perhaps picking up a moisture meter wouldn’t be a bad idea...in case you happen to be in the area... Not sure if you’ve purchased from them online or at the yard...quite a lot of choices there.

Yea I've been all over CL.. But a lot of the ppl didn't know moisture range.. Don't blame em.. Have you been pretty successful with good wood for the Kb?
Not so far. But I have found a couple vendors on CL that said they have some in the range I asked for. I am in north San Diego county and wood is more plentiful I imagine. I have a couple other irons in the fire though.
I would look at Kern Co (Bakersfield) for firewood for sale. Lots of Almond and Oak available. Delivery costs may be expensive but if you can get a trailer over the Grapevine you will likely save a good bit of money. If you get unseasoned, you can wait until it gets to the dryness you want. My crew cab Tacoma holds about a 3rd of a cord with a bed extender if you are trying to judge what you need and what you have space for.
appreciate this very much.. looking into them.. I ordered today from Smokinlicious.. We'll see how they pan out.. I'm told that the logs last a long time..
I have a local wood supply in Murrieta, CA. I haven’t checked the moisture, and they don’t ship wood, but my guy always has a great supply of oak splits, as well as several other woods for smoking. It always runs great in my stickburner.
Good luck!
Also...it’s great to see so many other Southern Californians on one post!!!
I've been there quite a bit.. Bought a Santa M grill and then even attended an Elk bbq class! I have gone through a bit of wood each cook from 2 different sources and the Kb-q (from what I'm learning) is a different beast all together. So I'd like to get it right (moisture) to get the real experience.. Yea we have S Ca. in here!

Vaughn Wood products. Good wood and cheap prices. They are out of Osceola, Missouri. It was cheaper for me to get boxes shipped to Spokane Valley, WA than to get boxes from another company in WA.
They have a nice variety.. I'll hit them up and see if they know the content of moisture.. Thanks so much.. Someone turned me on to Smokinlicious so I ordered from them and fingers crossed it'll answer my question to getting the smoke into the Kbq but these guys are getting in the rolodex (who uses that anymore)
Wood is in... Looks good and can't wait to burn.. It'll have to wait until Sunday since I've volunteered to grill at my son's school tomorrow..
Great customer service and nice touch in the packaging.. Cost was $40 for 15 blocks mix of Hickory and Red Oak..Which each block is labeled and the package comes with the moisture percentage of the different woods.. I was impressed.
If the blocks were 1 1/2 inch short they would fit perfectly in the KBQ firebox, but gotta Jawsaw for that which I might cut the blocks in half since I'm told they burn a long time..
We shall see Sunday..
I'm sure I did but at the time of this posting.. There was no answer to the call, so we do what must be done.. If it burns as long as they say it does then I'm happy and I know the exact wood moisture content (confirmed by the moisture meter) Thanks so much! I'll be looking for other avenues in the interim.
