    Fruita Wood Closing Their Doors?

I got an email saying the Fruita Wood guy is retiring and closing the doors April 15th. I bought all my smoking wood from those guys. I just checked and this is not reflected on the web site yet, but I'll be stocking up before long.

Got the email as well. Just so happens I used up all my wood chunks from them last week. Will buy some more tonight.

I’ve never purchased from Fruita but have heard great things about them. I do love seeing it’s due to retirement though!

if you need another supplier, let me know. I purchase nice wood chunks from another place that has been pretty good.

Yeah, Smokinlicious is great. Uniform sized pieces, no bark, good stuff. Learned about them from a fellow board member here a while back, think it was STEbbq if I remember correctly.

This is my go-to. Patti and Colette are the best! I don’t think they ship, though.

They are the best! I buy my splits from them.

I can get B&B Chunks at my local ACE.
How do you think they compare to Fruita?

I have poor taste memory. Wife and I had been using wood from the hardware stores. After reading from numerous posts that fresh wood from an orchard or wood bought online was better, I bought from Fruita. The taste was significant enough for me to tell the difference. My wife and I like smoky, not acrid. Flavor was much better and worth the price.
I recommend you trying a taste test. Get some wood from an orchard or buy some that is dried naturally, not kiln dried, and do a side by side test.

Fruita has a selection I haven't seen in stores. I got plum and orange. I can't say I actually taste a difference from apple, which is readily available. I think I just like the idea lol

I just received a 30 pound order from Fruita in January. Haven't used any of it, yet. Takes me about a year to go through 30 pounds of wood. Buying extra now does not seem reasonable, by the time I get to it it will be very old. I will miss the Peach. The Palisades Peach wood had a fantastic flavor, very bright and sweet! I had 5 different varieties from Fruita and did a taste test with chicken breasts. We settled on Pecan and Peach as our go-to varietals. I think Bert outsources his Pecan and others, but the Peach is local.

My last order was about 2 years ago, and I still have some post oak and a little plum. So I ordered 40 lbs this time - orange, plum, pecan and peach. Should to last me awhile.

I just went ahead and ordered 45 lbs of post oak chunks. Fruitawood has been the only place I can source it.

I may have pondered too long about placing an order even though I have enough for a few months. I've bought sweet cherry and hickory from them for quite a while. I'll keep checking their website just in case they're updating inventory or something and not shutting down early.

The owner sent an email saying he received over 600 orders which is nearly 2 months of work so he shutdown the website temporarily to fulfill the orders. The website will probably open back up about April 1. New orders will take about 3-4 weeks to process.

Got that email too. I missed the boat, I wanted to stock up on some more sassafras and plum but looks like I will either have to wait or miss out.

Let me know what smoking wood you need. I will be happy to send you some. I've got plenty of ash, cherry and oak. No big deal at all, LMK.

Vaughn Wood Products also shut down. Hard to find anyone doing this online anymore.

CountryCraft is, but currently they only offer red oak. We have a members only discount.

One mans trash is another’s treasure. I have to pay to have pecan limbs hauled off. About once a year the pile gets too big and I call the guy I use. I remember ComfortablyNumb saying he had all kinds of apple wood. Spinaker has lots of wood too. I guess we should form a co-op.

I just received an email from the Fruita Wood owner, one of their suppliers is taking over the Fruita wood operation. That's good news.

I got the same email. Denver Firewood. I love the Peach wood, very sweet and vibrant. It would have been sad not to get the Peach.
