Hey folks,
We just moved to northern coastal San Diego county CA. We only know my son & his family. Was all over Amazon and all of their wood is kiln dried (what the heck?).
Does anyone know of any sources for wood splits to feed my smoker in my area?
Thanks in advance!
JD
Olson Firewood is good for splits, around $60 for a 40 lb. bag, depending on the wood. They're not really splits, kinda this situation:
If you're willing to cut things down into splits yourself, there's tons of guys out in Ramona/Julian/San Pasqual Valley that'll drop whatever amount of oak or avocado you want. Just look on craigslist.

Thanks much brother!
I think it's down to whether I want to pay for shipping (it's advertised as free but it's built into the price) from fruitawoodchunks.com in TX, or do the hour plus drive to Escondido.
That's a fat chunk there. I'd be concerned that they might not fit in the firebox of my KBQ. I suppose I could drag out the kindling cracker... or pay the premium and get "mini-splits" 2 x 6" shipped from fruitawoodchunks.com. They would certainly fully ignite faster for cleaner full combustion.... yes I'd need to babysit the smoker and constantly feed it, but w/ the small firebox of the KBQ, I basically do that anyway.
Fallbrook is loaded with tree trimmers selling wood. But this is a bad time of the year to get wood as it is bought up heavily by people using it to heat thier homes.
This may also be an hour drive for you, but The Woodshed in Orange is a great source for all types of cooking wood. I make the drive down from Altadena a couple of times per year, and it's worth it.
Woodshed is great! There is another place in Irvine called Woodhill-Firewood 949-837-9663 that naturally dries their oak and other woods for a good price. The spits aren’t as perfect as Woodshed’s but you can fill up your truck bed for way less. Call or check on line first because they have odd hours.

Thanks,
I went there & got a bag of cherry. Very nice people & a beautiful ride from Oceanside .
The problem was, it was overly dry & extremely dusty. I burned through a 2 cubic foot bag in one cook. I did 2 pork butts and started out w/ my leftovers I bought from PA. In 5 hours I was out of wood.
I need to find a source of fresher wood for a more economic price. I’ll dig into facebook marketplace, Craig’s list etc.
I wish the wood shed wasn’t a 3 hour drive each way.
Thanks folks.

3 hours? Checkpoint notwithstanding, I get down there in about an hour and a half from Long Beach. If I find myself heading in your direction, I’ll reach out.
Thanks!
Where in Fallbrook if you don’t mind? I’d definitely make that drive. I’m looking for fruit wood like cherry, peach or apple. We prefer a mild sweet smoke flavor. Also like the color bark cherry produces.
Spent sone time on FB market place etc
, I’m striking out so far.
