The ash are all standing with limbs falling… so it’s ready to burn…. But the red oaks all fell in a storm…. The biggest took the others in a domino effect…. texastweeter …. Neither loss is desired…

I'm sure you know this, but IMO standing dead timber makes the best firewood. Gravity helps empty the capillaries, and being vertical keeps it dry. Thats the first firewood I look for when camping. Red oak is my primary fuel source for the fireplaces, and in pits, its just HEAVY AS HELL when green. Have fun limbing, choking that out, bucking it up and splitting it for the next week, lol. Worth it in the end. That standing ash will be mighty fine though and is ready to go as is.

I’ve spent the last 3 months taking down every dead black locust I came across… of which most of this is black locust… You can tell the ash as most are under 6 inches from limbs…
I’ve got enough firewood inventory to keep me warm and fed for many years… texastweeterLast edited by Washblue; October 17, 2022, 03:16 AM.
