    Smoking with Olive Wood?

Hurricane Ian pushed over our backyard olive tree, so I just cut up quite a bit of it. Anybody ever smoked with olive wood? Saw a couple of you tubes, but thought I'd ask those that might actually know. I guess I'll set some aside to dry out for maybe next summer.

Sorry to hear about your tree. Glad you made it through the Hurricane though.

It would be a great wood for smoking. I would get it cut up, and if you can, split it and stack it. Make sure to store it up off the ground . I would give it 6 months in that hot FL sun and then let it rip. I bet that it has a pretty light flavor, but I bet it burns well, when dried.

It should be great for smokin' olives.

      I know - I know - I'm no help...

RonB May try that some day, but I prefer to smoke my olives in gin and vermouth. Oh wait, I meant soak.

Thanks Spinaker, we were very fortunate here, just windy and lots of rain. Nothing even close to the tragedy of south west Florida.

Anyway, I worded the OP badly, the tree is not down, just a 15-20 degree lean. Cut off two 2-3 inch branches that were leaning down too much. Cut 15-20 pieces about a foot long and will try as chunks next summer.

I've used Olive wood pellets. It is very mild and unobtrusive.

Yes, will work great, but too little smoke flavor for my taste buds.

a Mexican buddy of mine mentioned he wants to cook a whole hog. He says we need to use olive wood.
He did one a couple of years ago, and people are still talking about it.

Just beware! My neighbor "had" an olive tree and the bear liked it! šŸ˜‚

I like using olive wood with beef. Gives a nice smoke flavor. I’m running out of my small supply.
