Those aren't even good for a bonfire. They are the ash producingest things on the planet. I think burning old magazines makes less ash. Your food will be covered.

Their logs are formed from sawmill byproduct sawdust which is usually softwoods and maybe a softwood/hardwood mix at best. Hardwood sawdust is a premium product which food pellet manufacturers are after.
Yes, you can smoke your brisket or pork butt using fir, pine, or other softwoods, but do you really want to if you have a choice?
Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.
