I did something similar to this as a kid. Except it was with yellow dried grass about 8 inches tall in our backyard. Playing with matches to see how quickly it could catch fire. A 12 year old mind isnβt quite developed yet haha.

...about the same age when I decided to kill mosquito larvae by pouring gas on a water-filled trailer normally used for hauling grapes. I was so worried my dad would notice the gas smell so I panicked and decided it to throw a match in there. You probably could've seen the fireball from Nevada...Dad sure saw it...

I scorched up the side of a country club when I was a little younger than that, it belonged to more than a handful of famous people and the home of the Bob Hope Classic... I got some mandatory time with the Fire Department and probably a little more from that experience https://www.invitedclubs.com/clubs/i...ry/our-history

Yeah I donβt know how I got that fire out but the burned area was slightly less than the diameter of my little sisterβs plastic play pool so I watered the area up then covered it with the play pool and forgot all about it.
A few weeks later I was taking the trash out and saw it and uncovered the pool. Voila! Green grass surrounding yellow grass. Mom saw it later and asked about it. I blamed the monsoon winds for covering the area lol.
Told her a few years after that what really happened.

OK, true story:
We had a garden behind our old house.
We had put chicken wire around it in a lame attempt to keep rabbits out
(who knew rabbits could jump so high??)
Well, it was fall, and leaves had gotten mashed up against the chicken wire.
This basically created a wall about 18" high all the way around the garden.
With me so far?
One day, we decided to burn some old tree limbs in the garden so we could till the ashes in.
I went and got the gas can and poured a small amount on a few limbs.
Being all about safety, I patted myself on the back for taking the gas can
back in the garage before I lit the fire.
I lit and threw a wadded-up newspaper on the limbs.
KA-BOOM!!!
Apparently, all the gas magically turned into fumes and stayed inside the wall I created.
My cousin said he could see the fireball go over my house...Last edited by Smoker_Boy; May 11, 2024, 10:05 AM.

Maybe heβs Idiot of the Week, but not of the year. I mean he didnβt die, burn down the house, or get lost at sea. Heck, despite setting his pants on fire and ignoring the flame, he didnβt even lose a limb. Iβll defend this guy as being a mere idiot, but not a prize winning idiot.
