The Weber Performer has a gas lighting feature that rocks.

My first thought was "GENTLEMEN, START YOUR CHIMNEYS!". I have a Weber Performer with gas assist lighting. It works great.

Weber cubes, tumbleweeds, or just torn off top of charcoal bag😏.

Paper towels. After I get my grill heated up and brushed off, I will take a couple of wet paper towels and wipe off any black gunk. The steam effect helps to clean the grills. I'll set the dirty paper towels aside and rotate them in as they dry out to be used in the charcoal chimney. Works great.

I can see rolled up paper being an issue - I used to use several crumpled sheets of newspaper and it always worked. I think rolled would be harder to get going.

I no longer get a newspaper, they took it from 7 to 3 days a week and sold out to an out of town conglomerate and let all the local staff go. Now I use the propane ignition on my Performer or two Weber starter cubes and it always lights.

I soak a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol. Works like a candle wick and the cotton ball burns up to nothing when the alcohol runs out.
