KBB is what I use because it's consistent and always on sale on for Memorial Day, Labor Day and the 4th of July. I have a couple of bags of Cowboy Lump, that I bought on sale, that I toss on the grill for searing, and not much else because of the inordinate amount of small pieces and it sparks like crazy. I will not buy anymore Cowboy, after I use it up.
When Stubbs goes on sale, I buy it. I can't bring myself to pull the trigger on Weber, because I'm too cheap
My conclusion from this and similar threads is that the best brand is the one each of us uses! I switched from Royal Oak to Rockwood for indirect grilling in my Performer over a year ago and have never looked back. RO had too much dust and fines for me. I'm going to start smoking this year with my new SnS and have both KBB and Weber to try. I've heard FOGO is good, but I have yet to try it. In other words, the best brand will be the one you end up using!
