Well nice detective work there. I seldom buy anything at Walmart. My wife occasionally orders house cleaning supplies for delivery so it is a non-issue for me. But that stinks and IMO sleazy. I don't know who could have initiated this. I think they both benefit.

I know ruger and savage both told me on the phone that they make a line of their rifles just for Walmart that has less features and less quality control, they are even more so mass produced, but the modrls are named the same. I know muzzy broadleaf aka broadheads did the same thing about 10-12 years ago.

I helped out at an outdoor store years ago in the archery department. The Weatherby Vanguards from Walmart had more plastic parts than the ones at the store. It enables them to rush those out the door quicker since they fill those orders first before moving on to the smaller customers, and the obvious lower price point that comes along with it.

I posted a comment to PJ's post, but will put it here too: I just recently took delivery on five bags of B&B from Walmart when it was on blowout at just under ten bucks a bag with free delivery. Just opened two to spot-check, and they're the real deal, full monty B&B, no scrawny briquets in those bags. So it cannot be Walmart-specific. But clearly something is up...

Thanks for all the input guys..
Definitely seems like something we need to keep an eye. One of the things noted from the place that I originally saw this was that the bags with the questionable briqs all had a duraflame logo somewhere on the back of the bag..
None of the bags I currently have on hand have the logo, so I can't verify.

Edit to add a photo of the bag in question, and to also note that the bag was purchased at Ace Hardware, so may not be just a "Walmart" thing

Just checked a few of my bags and it looks like having the logo doesn’t matter…🤷‍♂️ The full size briquettes I got from Academy have the logo and the bag of smaller briquettes from Walmart has the logo too. 🧐 It’s located near the very bottom on the back of the bag. A few others I just checked didn’t have the logo. Sounds like B & B is in some kind of transition, whether it’s just with Walmart, who knows.

I Just checked their website and found this on the briquettes product page:
        • Briquets made from oak
        • No chemical additives or fillers
        • Burns hotter, longer, cleaner
        • Available in a variety of sizes
Note point #4. I have never seen bags B&B labeled in different sizes.

They have them. 8.8lb cause that is 4kg and the larger one that I think is twice the size (17.6lbs). I could only get the smaller bags when I started using them around 2012.

I just bought some from Ace yesterday. They have the Duraflame logo on the bag but are normal size and have the B stamped in them.

Sheesh, is somebody counterfeiting these things? I mean, first it was expensive ladies’ handbags and fake Rolex watches, and now it’s something really meaningful like charcoal?

        #22
Well, since there’s so many of us here that use B & B and like them, I just sent an email to Duraflame’s customer service department asking about the size differences some of us have found. I’ll report back as soon as I hear something. And yes, I accidentally
threw around the name Amazing Ribs 😉…You can’t see it, but I finished it off by asking if they were phasing out the larger size in favor of the smaller briquettes and thanked them for their time.

As usual with a screenshot, if you tap/click on the image, it’ll enlarge and become clearer.

On Saturday I also emailed them. I was a little less nice than you were. lol

          Hello,

Have you all changed your manufacturing on B&B Briquettes. Attached is a pic showing 2 bricks that are very different. Is this a cheap imposter or have you become your own cheap imposter. Thank you for your time.

          Cheers,
          John Paul

Wow. I've sworn by B&B since I switched over to them after running out of Weber briquettes back in 2020. I surely hope the apparently crappier briquettes they are selling at Walmart are special just to Walmart. What I've bought at the local Ace and Academy is the larger one with the embossed B, even this summer. I'm out at the moment though, until I go through the lump and char logs I still have on hand.

I hate to hear B&B got gobbled up. I really enjoyed the 2020-ish fireside chat about charcoal via Zoom that included the president/owner of B&B at the time, and hate to hear they sold out. To-date, all forms of the B&B I've had smoked LESS than KBB, especially at startup, and smelled better than KBB, and out performed anything other than the old Weber briquettes. Well, outperformed Kingsford, Royal Oak and Cowboy for me.

Jim, apparently it’s not just Walmart that has sold the smaller ones. Finster mentioned above that he bought his bag of the smaller size briquettes at Ace. I too hope they don’t screw up a good thing…..🤬

Thanks Purc I’m eagerly awaiting a response too. I’m sure it’ll be some kind of corporate BS explaining why they’re doing it and why it’s gonna be a “good thing”. 🙄 I’m not expecting a reply that’ll make us happy….🤬

EDIT: My comments above proved totally wrong! 👍

Well I’ll be! Pretty quick response, but still a little vague……RESPONSE FROM B&B

        Hello,

We wanted to address some feedback we've been receiving about some of our bags of briquets.

We apologize for any confusion caused and want to assure you that the product itself hasn't changed at all in terms of formulation and source material. The only difference you may notice is the shape of the briquets, which is due to the use of different rollers used as we try to meet the demand for our briquets.

Rest assured, we are actively working to resolve this issue and appreciate your patience. It's important to note that our briquets are still sold by weight in each bag, so you'll still be getting the full quantity as promised.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we strive to provide you with the best quality products.

We value your feedback and are committed to making improvements. Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.

        Best regards,

        Heather/Consumer Affairs

        MY RESPONSE TO HER EMAIL…..

Thank you Heather for your quick response, I appreciate that. I can say that none of our members are happy with the smaller size briquettes, we love the original shape and size. So, is it safe to assume that this is just a temporary glitch and all briquettes should be produced in their original shape and size in the near future? We just wanted to know if this smaller size was going to be permanent or not? Thanks again, John V.

Well I’ll be, this is great customer care if ya ask me. Heather answered my reply in about 5 minutes! And it’s good news, looks like that was just temporary after all and it’s been fixed. Gotta say, I’m impressed with B & B/Duraflame’s customer service….kudo’s to Heather!

        Hi John,

Yes, the smaller shape was a temporary fix, and it has been resolved moving forward.

We appreciate you and the other members.

Thanks for being part of the B&B Community.

Wow, this is indeed good news if it’s on the level! Thanks for your efforts @ Panhead John and JohnPaul. Wondering, are there any lot numbers printed on the bags of crappy briqs? If so, maybe certain lots could be identified as those for board members to avoid?

Jessterr Based on a few comments earlier in this thread from people who’ve used the smaller briquettes, they didn’t really notice much, if any, difference in the burn. Heather assured us there was nothing changed in the formulation or source material of them. I haven’t used mine yet, but I’m gonna give them the benefit of the doubt that the only difference is the shape and size. Now that this is out, maybe future users of the smaller size can give us updates here? I think I’ll try some soon.

I snagged 4 of those $9.97 bags of briquettes from Wally World and it's the regular full-sized charcoal that they've always sold...

As I mentioned earlier I just purchased 3 more bags from Ace. I looked everywhere on the bag and there is no Duraflame logo on them, so there must be a fair amount of old stock around. These look just like my 2019 era bags in my shed.
