Is American cheese (slices) a processed cheese like ours in SA. I just read this post to my wife and she mentioned a video she watched of somebody trying to burn a processed cheese slice with a naked flame and it would not melt. I haven't tried but will. I use lots of these on my burgers and they are good eating.

Pretty much. It will melt a bit, but never run, and it might Brown a bit.
