I did it - Just registered for first comp

I just registered for my first KCBS Backyard Contest, the First State BBQ Bash in Milford, De. on Sept 9/25 - 9/26. Now I need to get my cook and box building figured out.

If anyone wants to part of team BKYDBBQ let me know. I can promise a free T-Shirt and hopefully a good time...

ETA: It's a double competition, one on Saturday and one on Sunday...

Congrats. It's a lot of fun and hopefully you will get good, meaningful comments back from the judges. Would love to help out on your team, but I'm in So. Cal.

Good luck. Look forward to your results.

Good luck! Remember, it is supposed to be fun, so don't let the inevitiable "oh shit" moment take that away.

Cool, man! Hope it goes well, just the cooking, learning and camaraderie more than the 'winning'! Although winning would be nice, too... lol

We have one here on Friday I considered signing up for, or just showing up to hand out food. But, I decided against it. Just not ready for it yet.

                    Cheering you on from Wi!

If you go into the day with the idea that you can have more fun than anyone else, and execute that plan, you will have a lot of fun regardless of how your turn in boxes score!

Now go score 9’s and show us that trophy!

That sounds like a great time! Definitely, try to get some video and pics. Would love to be there to help out, but it's a bit far for me, and if I know my wife, we will probably be busy with some family thing that weekend.

I used to watch all those competition shows (watch a few reruns now and then), and I always liked the behind the scenes stuff, the cookers, how people set up their camp, how they prepared stuff, and minded to cooks, and where the heck they had to sleep/rest all that stuff. And watching them interact with other competitors was cool too.

Really reminded me of the times we met friends for camping out & boating, then got to know our neighboring campers around the table or firepit.

I have cooked at Eggfest which are a lot of fun and a lot of work. I suspect that your competition will be more intense that an Eggfest, but it will still be fun. My Eggfest cooks were family events, and at the last one with my knee acting up I just gave directions. Our Chicken Muffuletta was a real hit with the judges and we tied for 1st place in taste. Of, course there were only about a dozen teams completiting and the cooks were cook what you wand and were not head to head competitions. Good luck and have fun!
