    Smokin The Ute Pass Summit

It was a good weekend for the Camp-Run-Amuk cook team (just me) and an exhausting weekend cooking at 9100ft above sea level. The comp is a small limited number of teams that compete for bragging rights and then feed the public to raise money for the Teller County Community Family Resource Center. A big shout out to the event hosts Peak Antler Co. and Paradox Brewing in Divide, CO, so if you are ever in Divide and think you need a craft beer/mixed drink stop on in. The event has seven different turn-ins with just 20 minutes between each, so I got no pictures as I was way busy and moving as fast as an old fat man with sprained ankle can move. Place 2nd in Chicken, 3rd in Ribs, and 1st in Pork Butt with a perfect score!!, which allowed me to claim the Grand Champion! Not too shabby.

(no Grand Championship for photography skills)..

                Ok, questions:
                1. Besides what you posted, did you have any other turn ins? If so, how'd you do on those?
                2. Was this a KCBS event?
                3. Did you smoke all your proteins in one smoker or did you use a few smokers? What smoker(s) did you use?
                4. On the pulled pork, did you turn in medallions, chopped, strands, combination, etc?
                5. On chicken, did you turn in thighs or something else? If thighs, did you scrape the fat?
                6. On the pulled pork, did you use your own rub or a commercial rub?
                7. Was this your first competition or have you done it a few times? What did you learn? And what did you forget to bring that you wish you had?
                Thanks. And great job!!

Although, for some dumb reason I did leave home without a jacket/hoodie or long pants. Divide is low 40's at night in the summer with a constant 20mph wind. 3am in shorts and a t-shirt was a little on the chilly side. I live here, I know better, but I will in fact be adding that to the master list.

Sorry for so many sections, I kept running out of characters in my replies.

Before you ask, I am not a fan of KCBS (at least not here in CO which is my only experience with KCBS). 4 scheduled events for the entire state and 3 were cancelled. KCBS is just about dead here.

IBCA (International BBQ Cookers Association), was much larger than KCBS in Texas by number of events and teams participating. I could have cooked 52 weeks of the year within a 2 hour drive of DFW, but I had a job and yard to mow.

"International" because events in LA, AR, OK, NM were considered International/foreign locations..
