Replacing the gasket for a Primo XL - What to buy?

There are several options. Any recommendations or should I just go with highly rated and lower priced?

The nomex gaskets have worked well for me.

Which kamado do you have? I believe the Primo is wider than the egg.

I replaced my original Primo Oval gasket with the Nomex gasket (When it burnt off). I have a Primo L300.

Years ago I replaced it w a high heat gasket that I bought off a guy on the Primo forum. I’ll try to look it up if you want. It’s excellent

I ended up going with the official replacement manufactured by Primo.

I replaced the gasket on my Kamado joe about a month ago. I bought the high temp nomex one. After I scraped and cleaned both upper and lower surfaces. I put the new lower gasket on, it looked thicker than my original one. I lowered the dome and adjusted it to lay flat on the new lower gasket. It worked great. I only have a lower gasket and have a spare for next time.

I like the Nomex too, though I'm running without a gasket these days.

My Egg is close to 20 years old as near as I can remember and I still run with the original gasket. Well--kind of. it is so transformed it doesn't even resemble a gasket. Agree 100% with your operation. Keep the lid adjusted and forget the gasket hassle. Low and slow or hot and fast doesn't make a difference.

Is going gasket free risky if your lid slams closed too hard?

painter Yes, it has worked for all kinds of cooks. Attjack - I haven't dropped or slammed the lid; I suppose it would be a problem if that were to happen.

I'm not recommending going gasketless - just saying it's possible.
