    Anyone using Kick Ash Baskets?

I just became aware that there are Kick Ash Baskets for mymy Pri XL. Are they worth it?

I have had one for my KJ Jr. for a couple of years. I think they are worth the money as they make it easier to deal with charcoal (loading and cleanup). They do offer better airflow, however, I was using a HighQue grate beforehand so airflow was never an issue.

If all you are looking for is better airflow then the basket may not be worth the $$.

No I don't have any airflow issue whatsoever. Just interested in making charcoal handling easier.

I saw a YouTube video and the guy had a two piece KABasket. But when I went to the website I only saw a single unit for the Primo XL for $120. I was a little disappointed in that.

I picked one up for my Kamado Joe Classic a few months ago & I recommend it. It helps bring the temperature of the smoker up faster & it helps with the ash clean out too. It's probably not a must have accessory but once you start using it, you'll be glad that you picked one up.

I've used one on my large BGE for a couple of years and I love it. Makes charcoal/ash cleanup a lot easier.

I have had one for my Large BGE for a few years. It makes clean up so much easier and it seems air flow is similar to the HighQue grate that I was using.

I’m going to get a set. Of course because Primo that means TWO. But that allows for the option of a half box or full box of charcoal.

A friend has one for his BGE. With the basket no more stirring coals before lighting, just shake the basket. And you can vacuum out the ash without having to remove all the coals by hand (a messy job). You get better airflow, but I don’t think that is a big deal as I have never had an air flow problem (if anything I overshoot temperatures). But still, in the long run the convenience of the baskets is worth it.

Well contacted them and they no longer sell the half baskets.

"After feedback from a lot of Primo Owners, we have discontinued the OX.5 Half Basket that was made from mild steel. Now we are focusing on the full oval stainless steel version with the available adjustable divider. Everyone is loving this model with its robust design and very flexible charcoal loading options."

SmokeyGator This means we can't use our charcoal divider that we already own. They sell a flimsy one for an additional $33. So $154 total. I wish I could have picked up their clearance sale on the old design instead.

You can probably still use your cast iron divider. Just put it in the basket then prop it up with a ball of aluminum foil or something. Or fill half the basket with lava rocks.

But I only used my divider once (the thing came with it as a special promo from the store I bought it from). After that I just light the full box on the air vent side then use the 1/2 heat deflector on the non air vent side of I want 2 zones.

Okay, cool. I'm still new to this grill but was thinking I might get better temperature separation using the divider.

Maybe. You probably get a better fire going on the 1/2 with charcoal, and you use less charcoal too. But aside from that I didn’t notice better heat separation. The indirect side was at whatever I set it at even with a full box.

I have one for all three of my kamados. They are a huge help. I am a fan.

Big fan here too as cleanup of coals is a breeze. Their divider makes for excellent 2-zone in my BGE.
