- Just a thought in the carnage on the ground, can you find the piece that the nipple on the band in the front fits into. By no fault of your own you may have been adding a wee bit of torque to the handle on opening and closing the egg that may have enlarged that hole. I bring this up because on my LBGE nr 1 on first gasket replacement in 02 (way before pull off adhesive gaskets) I noticed that the nipple hole had enlarged quite a bit when I removed the dome. I added some castable filler and no problems since.
- Your 07 BGE was right about the time the Gen 3 band was in its hey day. I think they are on Gen 5 or 6 now.
I have Gen 1 on my Kikuya and they were the old bayonnet style hinge. LBGE nr 1 has the Gen 2 band it out of the box was dreadful. It has a lever in the rear that holds the lid open. Too unsuspecting people who try and close the lid without relieving tension will pull the lid right out of the bands. Much carnage back in late 90's and early 00's on the old BGE forum. LBGE nr 2 has the same band as yours.
- Me personally I would opt for the new band. However remember the new band does not open as wide as previous bands. There is no issue with any of the BGE accessories or CGS accesories getting in and out of your BGE according to my BGE dealer here in Va Beach.
- There was a gent back in the day on the old BGE forum think his handle was "charwoodie" who developed a "clip kit" for Primo's to prevent accidents such as this. I believe I read somewhere that the new BGE band addresses this issue.
Sorry this happenned to you. Hope you get humpty back together and are cooking soon.
