A while back I got a BGE to keep at my father's place so that I would not have to drag my PBC, KBQ or other BBQ stuff back and forth from my place to his nearly as much. This is especially true for the holidays.
Once I decided to purchase the BGE for his place, I impressed upon him that they are fragile. If he could please let me know if he wanted it moved. I wanted to make sure I let him know that I would be happy to move it anytime. Plus, I live with in 5 miles of his house, so no big deal......Right? Wrong. He is not the most patient person in the world. He tends to rush things and he does not always take his time. I wanted to minimize the amount of times he would need to have it moved in the first place. So, I placed it out of the way, tucked back in a corner so there would be little chance he would ever need to move it. That lasted 3 years........Whelp he tried to move it himself the other day, and he tipped it over and broke the base.
After breaking it.....he proceeded to throw the whole thing in the dumpster. I think mostly out of frustration and the rest not knowing that any of it could be salvaged. The dome, side shelves and guts, all of it went in the dumpster. A few days ago, I stopped at his shop and noticed the BGE nest sitting there.....empty........."Oh No" I thought. I knew what happened. I opened the dumpster and there it was. So I took all the parts out and luckily, I was able to salvage the dome, nest, one side shelf, the plate setter, fire box, fire ring and EggSpander kit. All in all, not a total loss. All I have to do is keep an eye open for a base on CL or FB Market place. I have time, so no worries there.
It is tough for me to be too mad considering all the stuff I have broken in my 38 years of life. Heck, he could for sure break or destroy all the cookers and/or cooking items I own and I would still be DEEP in the red.
Anyway, if you are going to move a ceramic, take your time....better yet, have patience or let your grown kids do it.
This is the only time I wish I had not blown up my Broil King Keg.
Rant Over.
(I will post pics of the stuff I salvaged when I can)
