    PKO stainless steel grate

Does anyone know of a viable alternative to the PK company stainless steel grate? Seems a little steep at $80 or is that a fair price?

Stainless steel makes this is the upgrade replacement hinged cooking grid and charcoal grate for the Original PK Grill and Smoker by PK Grills.

That is fair to me. Shoot, $100 for stainless for me. Never look back.

Stainless is expensive. I think it’s worth it. Coated grates just never last very long and stainless can last a very long time if you don’t routinely exceed ~1500F.

            - Guess I am going to go against the grain concerning price. I think its a bit steep.
For comparison in price The Ceramic Grill Store has two offerings of stainless steel oval cooking grids. Neither fit (operative point) the original PK, one comes close and its about $25 cheaper but its not a hinged grate. No way the hinged grate adds $25 in my opinion though I am more often wrong in such things than I am right.
            - I know of no other grill that uses the same dimensioned cooking grate as the PK so they have a captive audience. I know they sell the cooking grate seperately or you can buy a combo of cooking grate and charcoal grate.
            - I will say this if any PKO of PK360 owners opt to buy the PK extender grids do yourself a favor and look at Hasty Bakes offerings. They are better made, way more sturdy, a tad larger and cost less or the same. I have both sets and in my opinion (means zilch) there is no comparison. They fit like they were made for the PK..

70monte my first set of PK extend grids arrived already corroding they are nickel plated steel definitely not 300 or 400 series SS maybe a much lower grade. Additionally they had what appeared to be slag on the grates which cut my hands. I wanked to PK they replaced and second set corroded within the season. Maybe I got duds but my neighbor has had the same results.
So far my Hasty Bakes are holding up just fine and routinely do double duty between the grills.

I've had my SS PK extended grates ever since they first came out and no corrosion or rust. My previous plated steel PK ones did corrode. They no longer sell the nickel plated extended grates, they are all SS now.

70monte, that makes sense. My PK is almost 14 yrs old my extend grids are about 6-7 yrs old. Very rarely use them. Too flimsy and with PD I have a hard time with how they attach/set between the bars on the grates. The HB’s make my life easier.
In fact I use the HB’s in the Primo XL for the same reason. Primo’s are well made its just hard for me to set them in place. Too much hand shaking.

tiewunon is probably right that you pay a little more because there's a lack of aftermarket competition in the PK world. But if you already have a PK, that's the world you are in. The stainless cooking grate and charcoal grate are awesome and will last virtually forever. I have both, and I think it's worth it to upgrade if you can afford it.

You can buy after market thinner stainless grates for the smaller Weber portable for $15. The selling price we pay is as much a function of the markup that the seller takes as it is the cost of manufacturing. My guess from building similar products in China is that the cost of the grills are from $15 to $25.

It appears to be heavy gauge material and should last a very long time. The hinge looks very well made and is a big plus for adding charcoal/fuel. (I have a PK360 and the hinged grate is a big plus.)

Take note that if you buy it via Amazon, the shipping is free and is is shipped from PK. A call direct to PK would likely get you the same deal.

Unfortunately PK's are priced a bit high but I have no "buyer's remorse" on what I have bought from them.

Ooopsie, I don't see the PK replacement listed.

I have one of the PK SS grates and it’s well worth the spend, IMO.
