New PK360 Silver with teak shelves released

PK Grills has a wide inventory of quality grills and smokers available. Click here to view the grill that will revolutionize the way you cook today.

You can also buy the shelves separate for $199.00

Also, in communications I had with customer service they said a more robust charcoal basket is "On the radar".

They can keep the shelves, but a more robust charcoal basket would catch my eye.

I really want wood shelves but these are really light in color. I liked the look of Ironwood better, but teak is popular in boating so if you live in a rainy location then it might be worth a look.

One could use the original for a template to make one from the wood of choice then attaching it over the originals.

I'm with DWCowles on this one. Crazy expensive.

The original PK is much nicer imo.

The original shelves, or the smaller grill?

The original rectangular base/shelves as opposed to the pedestal design of the 360.

Attjack If you are just talking about the appearance of the cart, I agree. In fact, that was my first choice until I considered the features of the PK360 that put it head and shoulders above the Original. The intakes don't allow ash to fall out in the 360, whereas they could fall onto the lower shelf of the Original. Dumping ashes through a hole into a bucket as opposed to having to lift and dump the cooker. Being able to use the cooker without the stand (like a rock, a concrete table, the ground) as opposed to having to use the cart. Maybe one day PK will make a cart like the Original for the 360 and get some more of my money.

Completely agree (although I didn't know the specifics of the improved features) just that both designs are nice, but the old aesthetic seems nicer. Kind of like how the Weber Ranch base is much better looking than the tripod, at least to me.

I hope the charcoal basket does what I want it to do. Their old one is plenty robust, just not the right size and shape.

I made my own basket, but a better fit would be nice.
I could provide details on what should change if anyone cares.

I got both the PK and the PK360. Both work great, but the PK360 is bigger. Kind of like the Weber 18" vs. the 22.5". I ordered my PK360 when they first were offered with the ironwood shelves......Gorgeous. It is the best looking grill out there. And yes, looks are somewhat important to me. I've got enough tin cans. Wanted something with a bit more flair.

Two things on it that I would improve is the pedestal stand and provide an ash can for the back. Not sure about all the talk on a heavy duty grill grate. The standard grate is fine, since all I do is grill on it. Smoking is done on my Weber's, PBC or the big boy.

No doubt both models old and new look great.

The talk is about a better designed charcoal basket. Both the grill grate and basket are heavy duty, it would just be nice to have one designed to stack coals higher for indirect.

So here's the full details. In their user manual it warns to not place lit coals against the aluminum surface or it may damage it. So I've been carefully stacking coals away from the wall which is a pain due to space limitations. Then I watched the 'turkey cook' video on their website and they tossed the coal & stacked it up against the right wall - so I was like "Hey man."

I e-mailed them and asked if this was really a concern? And I also noted how their charcoal basket walls are short so charcoal easily spills over and gets wedged between the basket and the wall. I actually send them a pic of your basket and also noted the SNS product. Here is their reply...

Allowing the charcoal to rest on the side of the capsule shouldn't cause any problems. We recommend this to be especially cautious, but we have never seen it cause a problem on a PK360. Developing a product with higher sides is on our radar!

It would be cool Polar if you'd post your basket specs. If the wait is too long I can have a buddy of mine make one.

That’s the reason I made it. (Keeping coals away from the aluminum). It’s a stainless steel strip 4” tall x 0.06” thick. Hand bent to match the contour. And bolted with stainless bolts washers and nuts.

You can buy 4” strips of stainless from mcmastercarr.com.

The trick is that the folding side of the grate has hooks that hold it in place which protrude down when folding so I made sure my basket was just a little wider than that.

Its actually not hard but the stainless isn’t cheap.

I sent them (pk) a lengthy email describing a coal basket with full height (4”) between the grates and as wide as the removesble section last May (17). They responded that they were working on a new design. That sounded to me like it would be a while so I made my own.

For standard two zone grilling, theirs is good, but I can cram and pile more coal in mine and it’s narrower so it give you more cook grate room. Basically optimized for low and slow or a 1/4 size sear zone two zone set up.

Hoping they come up with something similar that fits even better. If they contoured the basket to the tapered sides of the pk, you could get even more coal in there.

Very nice set up. Question: I see that you laid aluminum foil down under the meat, on top of the grate. The guru blower is set up on the left as well. Is this done this way to prevent ash from being blown over the meat if the guru was set up on the right vent?

No. Blower is on left. Foil directs the air under the basket. Air goes up through the coals then across the meat and out the upper left bent. Both right vents closed. The ash falls and clogs the right vent first, so having the fan on the left keeps it going longer.

On a Dry test run I had the fan on the right intake,. After burning a full chimney of KB about half of the blowers were covered in ash. So I ran the fan at 100% to see if it would blow ash around and it did not - it's comes out pretty gentle thanks to the PK's design. Then I realized Polar set it up on the left and I think that's the way to go.
