Buying our first PK

Thinking about buying a PK to use when we are traveling and staying at air bnbs. What’s your recommendation for this application - I drive a pick up truck, so the smallest travel one is not a necessity. Best source for finding a used one? It will be our first PK - been all Weber for many years.

I think all the PK grills are technically portable - even the 360 comes off the base and can be used as a portable grill. If you want to haul one in the truck AND use it on a stand - I like the folding cart on the PKTX.

Used PK grills seem to be few and far between, and as already suggested, Facebook Marketplace is your best bet these days. I see nothing on there searching myself right now though.

Roonmeister I think it is the fact that they last forever, with that cast aluminum body, so people that have them love them. People who buy a PK are enthusiasts, and hang onto it. And the third reason is there simply are not that many of them. A few hundred thousand PK grills have ever been made, since the 1950's, versus 50 million or more Weber kettles since 1952. PK was regional (south) until they went under in the mid 70's, and not national until it was resurrected in the 90's.

For new regular PK grills the PK-TX is the most portable. If you find a used PK Original look for this stand, its discontinued now but I have one and I love it for traveling. Its called the PK-Go stand, not the same as the newer PK-Go small grill:

Agree 100% with 58limited and jfmorris above. PK + PKTX is great for moving your grill around camp areas, beach, travel sites, etc. You basically can load up everything on it (grill, stand, bag of charcoal, chimney, etc.) and move out. The PK with the original stand is portable, but just a tad better than the portable Weber kettle. Which means both have wheels, but a bit of a pain to move around. At least the PK with the original stand won't tip over when you're carting it around

The stand pictured above is great for travel and cooking on your tailgate or on a table next to your camper.

I have both too and they are great accessories.

I kept a Weber kettle (1997 model) in the warehouse at a previous employer, where I would cookout every other Friday for lunches during the summer, and the challenge I had was the legs falling off and apart about every time I rolled it over to a field next to the warehouse to dump the ashes. About ANY grill is more stable than an original Weber kettle.

jfmorris Yes, I can relate. I have an old 'Brownie' kettle (90's) and the legs will pop out of their sockets while I so carefully move it from the bones yard across the driveway.

I just bought my PK360 on facebook marketplace. in the past few months, i have seen only one other PK come up besides mine but it's worth keeping an eye out. play around with the search terms because sometimes people list their stuff incorrectly....

Have played golf with Ben and his son before. Great folks. We sold them steel where I worked. I would love one but it’s a little overkill for my needs!

Well, the pk go is very portable though small. Check that model out.

I love my PKGO especially with the flip kit, but gosh it's super expensive these days.

PK guys - is $250 a good price for a PK Go with Flip Kit? Looks like it needs a thorough cleaning, especially the grill grates.

They are listed at $400 new but are out of stock. PK's tend to hold some value so $250 might not be too bad but I would offer less and negotiate from there.
